His voice didn't work so well for the first minute or two after Nessie's major download, and when Drew saw the look on her face, he really really wished it would. It was a lot of information, a huge conglomeration of facts and recollections that he was still trying to make total sense of. But there was one thing he definitely knew-- the first thought he had was how much it hurt to see Nessie that sad, especially because it was thanks to something about him.
Drew slid closer to Nessie. "It's just, um... It's just a lot to take in at once, you know?"
A few hours ago, Drew Griffin was a guy with an unusual girlfriend with an unusual gift, but because she was pretty and smart and fun and made him happier than he could remember being since the first time he'd seen his name on a real book in a real book store. No, Drew knew, happier than that.
Decision time, Drew, the voice in his head told him. Drew reached out and put his hands over Nessie's.
"Guess maybe you'd better tell me everything," he told Nessie, "since I have a feeling there's more, somehow. Just, you know... do it slowly?"
