Who: Lucifer and Famine What: I like your work When: 1316, during The Great Famine Where: Random Village in Europe Warnings: Lucifer being Lucifer, talk of famine, talk of cannibalism, talk of death
Lucifer found many things amusing. The suffering of man was one of his many favorites. Especially when it showed how low humanity could truly fall. And to think, this was the favorite species of God. Now they killed, stole, and occasionally ate one another. Just because of a bit of rain, and a bit of starvation. Really, humanity didn't know suffering anymore. Most of them ended up in his hands, now mortals were so willing to give everything for a loaf of bread.
He was watching the villagers fight over scraps, up to their knees in mud and filth. He imagined it wouldn't end well. But while humanity claimed it was the end, it really wasn't. Not yet. Sadly enough. He was on a wall, biting into an apple to see which one of the villagers would come to him first for an offer. When he felt a tingle he looked back and grinned at Famine, "good work dearest. I must say, one of your finest. I'm impressed."

What she hadn't expected, however, was to find Lucifer standing and watching. She rolled her eyes internally. Sometimes he was good for conversation, but mostly she just ended up being annoyed by him. But he wasn't doing anything too terrible yet, and there was no harm in being civil. She could always deny that she was later.
"Because that's my goal in life, you know," she said, fluttering her hand dramatically over her heart. "Making sure it's up to scratch for you." (Reply to this)(Thread)

It helped the church was fucking this up, and people were starting to blame God for their problems. (Reply to this)(Parent) (Thread)
black_horse 2011-09-12 07:50 pm (local) (link) She had to crack a smile at that. "I'm sure it does, but you know I can't really work for you. So I'll sigh wistfully and admire said shiny prizes from afar." She sank onto the ground next to him, tucking her legs beneath her in a way that was almost ladylike. Even though no one could she her, she'd still dressed appropriately for the area, and the voluminous skirts were sometimes a pain.
"Which can only be a good thing, I think," she remarked. "Lord knows we don't need them screaming about how the Devil has come to watch them die." (Reply to this)(Parent) (Thread)
dawnstar 2011-09-12 08:39 pm (local) (link) He laughed to that, "I disagree. I would find it hilarious." He found a lot of odd things hilarious. "And you can still try and take the shiny prizes Famine. This makes me think you deserve one."
Smiling he looked to the suffering mortals, "some think this is the end. Unfortunately for them, it isn't. What's even more ironic, the church is losing it's grip. I'm hearing heresy left and right." (Reply to this)(Parent) (Thread)
black_horse 2011-09-12 11:14 pm (local) (link) She snorted. "You would. It's just up your alley. And you know I can't, neutrality right up until the end. Them's the rules. Though I do have to admit I am a fan of shiny things."
She shook her head. "The End is still a long time off, or at least if it's now, I haven't heard anything, and I'd be rather cross about that. And a cross Famine is not a good thing."
She shrugged. "The heresy's your bag, I don't even know what's going on with the Church anymore. They barely make sense to me anymore." (Reply to this)(Parent) (Thread)
dawnstar 2011-09-12 11:18 pm (local) (link) He chuckled, "I'll have you know, I barely did a thing to get the ball started. And it's just whispers." He shrugged, "these are the types who believed us on the Inquisition thing. I wouldn't give them much faith."
He glanced to her, "I doubt you're much to fear when you're angry. I could use you for a sail right now. Tie some rope and sheets to you." (Reply to this)(Parent) (Thread)
black_horse 2011-09-12 11:34 pm (local) (link) "I'm sure," she said, not using much inflection either way. "But you know how whispers go. They spread faster than wildfire." She shrugged too. "Oh, the Inquisition. So much chaos everywhere."
She appraised him coolly, letting a little of her mortal mask slip. She couldn't unleash her true form until the end, which was kind of a shame. It was about eight feet high, with the horse, black as midnight. Both horse and rider had bright, burning eyes (like she did right now), and animals and vegetation perished in their wake.
"Looks can be deceiving," she said, voice echoing slightly. "It wouldn't do to have one who helps usher in the End to be weak, now would it?" (Reply to this)(Parent) (Thread)
dawnstar 2011-09-12 11:54 pm (local) (link) If Lucifer was a lesser being he'd probably be frightened. Unfortunately, he was used to Hell. His own true self was probably nothing to sneeze at, but right now he just gave her an unimpressed look. "Oh, I'm sorry, should I scream?" He smirked, "you're probably making this little thing worse like that pet."
"Honey, wrong devil to try and impress. I've seen worse. I am worse. Put on your little girl pants again." then he chuckled, "I honestly did not expect them to believe everything we said." (Reply to this)(Parent) (Thread)
black_horse 2011-09-13 12:03 am (local) (link) She shrugged. "Can't break out the looming presence with the horse until the End. One of the rules. But I can be creepy and waifish and stronger than I ought to be, at least for now."
She laughed. "There's a difference between trying to impress someone and proving a point. Worse now, perhaps, but I've seen religions rise and fall, and I'll be here long after you're gone. I'm an idea, an event." Her face smoothed out again, becoming the 20-something girl again. "And don't call me a little girl."
"They're impressionable and frightened, and they want to believe that at heart they're good. Even though most of the ones I've met aren't." (Reply to this)(Parent) (Thread)
dawnstar 2011-09-13 12:09 am (local) (link) He rolled his eyes, "same here kiddo. Part of the deal and all that bull." He gave her a long, even look, "and what was the point? That you can look creepy?" He shrugged, "I do as I please Famine. You can't hurt me. Not for long."
"And just remember girly. The minute you run out of mortals, the minute you're gone. You need them, and they do not need you. And if you're lucky they'll stay stupid and never figure out how to kill you."
He gave a snort, "honey I've been spreading that gospel from the day I Fell. No one believes it. Mortals aren't worth all this mess." (Reply to this)(Parent) (Thread)
black_horse 2011-09-13 12:21 am (local) (link) She patted his arm in a vaguely mocking way. "Silly rules. And yes, that pretty much was the point. I do creepy well." She shot him a look from the corner of her eyes. "You always do. And that's an ace in the hole I'll keep for a time you're actually being annoying. Unlike now, this is actually almost...pleasant."
"True," she conceded. "But they reproduce at an exponential rate, so I don't see that happening for a long time." She lay back, looking up at the sky. "I wonder, though...how do you kill an idea?"
"Most of them want to believe they can be saved, even if they won't admit it. Though most of the time I'm inclined to agree, they aren't worth the mess."
