WHO: Friar Tuck, Will Scarlet
WHEN: Early March, 2020 - right before Will is paroled
WHERE: The...prison...
WHAT: A visit!
WARNINGS: Not likely?

Tuck tried to make it to see Will Scarlet once every fortnight, but sometimes it stretched out to once a month. He hadn't been since January and he felt terrible about it! His dear friend was in prison, separated from their family, and Tuck knew he had a parole hearing coming up the next week. He made it a priority to visit. He figured Will's nerves would be through the roof about it.

So he signed up on the visitation list, and while Will was informed he had a guest, Tuck went through all the security protocols. It did help that his record was squeaky clean and he was seen as an upstanding member of the community. Even if one of his boys had been in lockdown he would have appealed to visit as their 'priest'. He was just glad Will was in minumum security and therefore he didn't have to lie his way in to see his brother.

Once he'd been well and truly patted down, Tuck made his way into the little visitation room and he sat at one of the fake wooden tables, waiting for Will to be led in. His foot jiggled with anticipation, but when the door opened and Will was led through, Tuck grinned widely at his friend. He knew they were allowed one hug at the beginning and one at the end, so he stood to wrap Will up in a warm embrace. The man could probably use it.

Dear god, Will was going to use every particle of his allotted twenty seconds for the hug he'd been looking forward too all day.

Prison was... well, it was prison. Grey walls, grey food, dickish guards, day in and day out. The monotony of the place got to him more than anything else. It hadn't taken much for him to make friends with people in here, especially with Robin at his side, but since Rob got let out, things had been slightly different. Will Scarlet was not a man to back down from a fight, but if he could charm his way out, he would.

The orange jumpsuit was the least flattering item of clothing he'd ever worn, even with the sleeves rolled up and a few snaps undone. He ran a hand through his hair (the orange made his hair look really brassy) and grinned at Tuck, coming into the hug with enthusiasm.

"Well met, father," he said, clapping Tuck on the back. At least prison was good for one thing, and he was in great shape.

Tuck held on to the hug for the entire twenty seconds too, and perhaps a little longer, until the guard cleared his throat at them and Tuck reluctantly let Will go.

He missed his brother.

"Good to see you, Will," Tuck said, taking his seat again. "I put some money on your commissary! It should be able to get you some nice food for a change." When Robin had gotten out, he had wolfed everything down desperately for a good several months and Tuck worried about Will still stuck in here. "You look good! How have you been?"

"Oh you know, can't complain. Who would listen?" Will joked, sitting down on the hard plastic chair and leaning back in it. "Cheers for the dosh. It does brighten the day having an extra treat." He looked Tuck over, noticing how healthy he looked, like he'd been seeing a bit of sunlight. He'd be seeing it again himself soon, all things going to plan.

"How's the church, then? Spring must be good. Getting closer to Easter, got big plans?"

"I'm trying to convince Johnny to let me advertise him giving shoulder rides to the kids as 'giant rides'," he laughed, "I don't know if he's going to go for it. Then main plan is getting the kids to all drew a bunch of eggs and then donate them to the food bank. The kids are thrilled at the idea. I was hoping you'd be able to help, actually."

"Me?" Will glanced around. "Lets not count our chickens, eh?" Heh, great joke, considering the subject matter. He couldn't help a slight twitch of the eyebrow and a smirk. But seriously, parole was not guaranteed, no matter how well behaved he was, no matter how much he threw himself into rehabilitation programs. All it took was one arsehole on a power kick and he was stuck here until his next hearing.

"How are you feeling about it all?" Tuck asked, since he had slightly broached the subject. You had to come at these things sideways with the Merry men. "Do you know what you're going to say?"

Will clasped his hands together and opened his eyes wide. "Please sir," he said, in his best Oliver Twist impression. "I just want ta see the sun again, yer honour- one last time-" He wobbled his lower lip dramatically. Would Tuck laugh? Maybe. Sense of humour got a bit skewed behind bars.

Tuck did laugh, though it was more a chuckle than anything else. "Not entire sure if that's going to get you where you want to go there, love. And I wouldn't try 'I miss the ladies, sir, and golly gosh do they miss me' either."

With a small grin, Will spread his hands in helpless innocence. "Just bein' honest, gov," he said. He wasn't about to mention any changes in that department, not yet anyway. Prison boyfriends weren't exactly unheard of, but still, it was a big change for Will. He didn't know how the other guys would take the news of his broadened horizons. Especially Rob.

Tuck chuckled again and he grinned, "New York City doesn't know what coming for it if you get paroled! Or half of it anyway!" Then, more seriously, "it would be so good to have you around again. Much hasn't returned from his road trip and I think I'm driving poor Johnny, Rob and Marian crazy just showing up at their places at all hours for company. I heard Alan might be headed our way soon though!"

"Hey, that's somethin' at least. Tell them all I say hi." Will didn't want to be a bother and point out how lonely he got sometimes, without the others around. He was grateful for Tuck's semi-regular visits. He knew the prison was a bit of a distance for travel, it was difficult and stuff, but... still.

"I will," Tuck nodded. "I have messages from them. Rob says keep your hopes up and your head down. Whatever that means. And Marian and Johnny send their love." Tuck chewed on his lip for a moment, "if it does go your way, what do you want for a celebration dinner? I can cook you something."

Will blew out a breath between his lips. "Gee, I hadn't give it much thought- roast beef with potatoes, pumpkin, peas and carrots- not parsnips!- and rich gravy and Yorkshire pudding, and then for dessert a sticky toffee pudding with vanilla bean ice cream and then coffee aperitifs afterwards? Just something simple along those lines," he said with a shrug. No bid deal. He definitely didn't dream of a proper hearty meal every single day or anything.

"So exactly the amount of thought I would have given it," tuck said. He could hardly blame Will. Prison food sounded awful and Robin had insinuated that sometimes it just wasn't enough. "I will make you everything you just requested. With extras to take home. Where would you be staying?"

"Dunno yet. We'll see." Will shrugged. He presumed one of the guys would put him up- or put up with him- eventually. "I think I have to go to a halfway house for the start of my parole but I'm not sure how it's going to go yet. Can't wait to find out, though!" Oh yes, breathing a free air again... that was what he dreamed of, every single night.

"Well you always have a place with me, but you would have to deal with the parishioners," Tuck laughed. "You know you just need to focus on how you've changed. How sorry you are. And you'll charm them, you know you will. I believe in you. We'll see you home with us soon."

Will flashed his most charming smile. "You know I'm a changed man," he said with a wink. It didn't matter what the real truth was, so long as the parole board believed it. He was only really sorry that he'd got caught, and stuck in here for years. Ugh, so many more years than he needed. Life was for the living! Not wasting away in here. "The real reward is the friends we make along the way."

"That works much better than the other two," tuck chuckled. "Have you been keeping safe, then?" He knew very well that Will could defend himself if he needed to. Will Scarlet had bruised and bested him quite a few times over the centuries. But if he was trying to behave himself he might not fight back and tuck worried about him a lot.

"Safe as houses, Tuck. The big house, specifically." Will shrugged. He knew how to run with outlaws, and make friends with dangerous people. He was friends with Robin Hood, after all! And he couldn't be seen to be making trouble, that wouldn't go down well with the parole board at all. "I've made friends. That guy Carl I told you of, he's doing reading remediation now, and he's improving every day. I'm just trying to help, you know?"

Tuck's face lit up and he smiled widely. "Will, that's wonderful! Of course you're helping, that's what we do. I'm glad to hear you're safe as well. I pray for you all the time." He knew Will didn't really believe, but Tuck did. "For you to be kept safe and return to us soon."

"You're too kind, friar." There was movement around the edge of the room, and Will glanced over. Jeez, was time coming up already? He sat forward, leaning his arms on the table, just to be a little closer to Tuck. "If they let me out at the hearing, you'll be the first to know. Well, first Robin, then you. Promise," he said, wanting to reach across the table and take Tuck's hand.

"First Robin, then me," Tuck agreed. Their leader was also Will's uncle, of course he should know first. Fuck, he didn't want to go. He didn't want to leave his friend already. He wanted to take Will's hand too, and hated that he couldn't. The Merry Men, most of them at least, were a tactile bunch and not being able to show his dear friend much physical affection was awful. And he imagined it was a thousand times worse for Will.

"I don't want to go," Tuck breathed. "Well, more like- I want to take you with me. Just keep going. Just another few weeks. I know you'll get out, Will. And I'll make you as much roast beef as you want."

"I know." Will nodded, feeling kind of forlorn. "Cross my heart, I am doing everything in my power to get that parole approved. You've never met a more model prisoner than me."

"I believe it," Tuck nodded. He glanced over at the guard who signalled for them to wrap it up. "Dammit. It's never enough time," Tuck hissed. "But we still get a hug." He rose from his seat and opened his arms to Will.

With a nod, Will got to his feet and held Tuck tightly, holding him close for every moment he was allowed to. Having a friend he could trust with his life so close but so far was painful to say goodbye to. "Look after everyone for me," he said into Tuck's shoulder. "Tell them I miss them."

"Always," Tuck whispered back. "I will. God, we all miss you too." Tuck only pulled back when he heard that clearing of the throat again, and he hated it. "Get yourself some chocolate from the commissary or something," Tuck suggested. He had put as much as he could afford on there, since he knew Will liked nice toiletries as well. "Love you, Will," he said, his voice quiet. And he did, he loved all the Merry Men and told them often. He felt like, of all of them, Will might most need to hear it right now.

Will gave Tuck a firm nod, his eyes saying what his mouth couldn't. He loved all of the Merry Men. They were his family. Being without them was like missing a piece of his soul. But as he glanced back, while the guards lead him out of the room, he promised himself that it wouldn't be long, and he'd be back home with them all once again. And he'd have better hair, and everything would be great.

Just as soon as he was out of this place.
