Who: Jamie & Thomas Kemp
What: Jamie really needs to talk to his dad
When: October 2010
Where: Their apartment
Ever since coming back from the party Saturday night, Jamie had been turning the whole night over and over in his mind. Mariah was head cheerleader, one of the prettiest girls in school, and while she was drunk, she'd been hitting on him pretty hardcore last night. Jamie had done his best to stay afloat in that conversation, but honestly, he wanted to run in the other direction.
And then she was right up in his space, running her hand along his face, and pulling him into a kiss. That lasted about .5 seconds before Jamie realized he'd rather be almost anywhere else. And, if he was being honest with himself, this wasn't exactly a newsflash. He didn't mind having friends that were girls, that wasn't it at all. He just didn't think of them romantically. And this just sort of clinched it.
He put one hand on Mariah's shoulder, gently pushing her back. "I need to go," he said. "You're very pretty, but honestly, you aren't my type." She'd just sort of blinked at him before stumbling away and further into the house.
And now Jamie was standing in his bedroom, wringing his hands and trying to get up his nerve to tell his father. He hated keeping secrets from his dad, but he wondered if telling him now would be like poking a bruise. But then again, he needed someone to bounce thoughts off of, and who better than his dad?
He stared at his reflection in the mirror, hair crazy and eyes slightly wild, before closing his eyes tightly for a few moments, then opening again. He pulled open his bedroom door and called out, "Dad? Dad, can I talk to you for a sec?"
