John nodded slowly, and then leaned towards her. "Perhaps," he said, "we can get to know each other better. Dinner? Friday?" He wouldn't mind, now that he knew more about her, if things went in a certain direction, but perhaps right now would be poor strategy. Let her want to know him better first, and then see where things went. She wasn't some bored rich wife of a client, or the daughter of a law partner. And if his move was taken badly, her father would come down on him hard.
He'd just have to see how this played out, but he had hopes they might turn out good.
