Chicky had thought he was just being polite, but when Detective Mike leaned in to look at the statue, he grinned widely. And not a mocking grin, the the ones the boys had shared while they were pawing over the botánica remedies— it was a big, beaming smile. Without even thinking about it, Chicky found herself smiling back. "Sure! I gotta put this guy back anyway. They're this way." Rounding the counter, she snatched up Goofy Michael again and led him over to the second aisle, where the bulk of the religious statues were kept. The largest were arranged on the floor at the end of the aisle, among them a statue Chicky thought of as Beefy Michael. He was tough and muscular and the way he hefted his sword made him look like he wasn't here to play, even if his wings did look like they'd been a kid's Halloween costume in a past life.
