“Me? Nah, it’s not my- I did, when I was a kid, a little bit. I can. But I don’t.” Avery took Lyra’s hand and started leading her back down through the house. “Once it became Hope’s thing, I kinda gave up on it. Plus I had other interests.” He shrugged. The paranormal had become much more of a calling than horses ever had been, and it had become to him a symbol of his privileged upbringing. Regular people didn’t just ride horses. He wondered how Lyra would take to it- but then, she seemed to take to most things he’d see her try like a duck to water. She’d probably be fine.
So he lead her out into the stables, jogging between the house and the barn to keep warm. “So they have a groom called Kimiko, she helps keep things together but Hope does a lot of the work herself.” He waved as he spotted a slender Japanese lady on her phone in the middle of the walkway. “Just looking,” he called, so she knew she didn’t have to end the call.
He stopped them outside the stall of an older mare, who was munching on some hay. She swung her big, sweet face around to look at them. “This one’s Candledancer,” he said, gesturing in. “She’s getting on a bit now but she was the first horse Hope owned. Wanna say hi? She’s super mellow.” It was kinda cool being able to introduce Lyra to something new like this.
