Avery snorted a laugh, and glanced back over his shoulder at his bewildered mother just before they turned a corner. “Oh my god, I’m so sorry. I should’ve warned you she’d try and put on a show.” He shot Lyra an awkward smile. “I didn’t know she was planning on enforcing the guest room though. She just has to try and muscle her way in- Okay, it’s here.” He stopped a moment and then shoved his door open and went in unceremoniously. The bedroom was completely the aesthetic of 16 year old Avery. A shelf held boxes of random paranormal paraphernalia, relics of his ghost hunting days. His desk had a computer on it that flashed with rainbow LEDs and had a sticker of an alien face on the side. The covers on the bed were black with a purple and blue galaxy print splashed across it. The walls were papered with UFO and movie posters, as well as a sexy firefighter calendar from four years ago. Avery noticed it for the first time in ages, and grabbed it down.
“Oh, that- that was- I was trying to make a statement,” he said a bit awkwardly, shoving it in a drawer. “So um, this is it. Welcome.”
