Lyra squeaked as she was hugged, but it didn’t stop her hugging tightly back, her heart racing in her breast. This was family! Brand new, excited-to-meet-her family! She felt guilty, just for a short pang before she pulled away, because Rosario wasn’t getting this, because – aside from Thalia – Rosario’s new family was batshit. (And, okay, Lyra's mom was having a bit of a batshit moment of her own right now, so it wasn’t like Lyra’s family was perfect or anything, and it wasn’t Lyra’s fault Rosario’s family was Like That, so Lyra forcibly took the guilt and put it away, cuz it wasn’t hers.)
“It is so good to meet you!” she enthused, pulling back from the hug and only holding back from asking who, exactly, she was, because she had important questions of her own to answer first. “I’ll eat cake! And something warm? My fingers are still a bit…” she rubbed her hands together briskly, letting the action speak for itself about the temperature of her hands. “Mocha, if you’re offering?”
