She kinda wanted to puke. She really wanted to head up there armed with a bottle stead of just a stupid binder. She absolutely and completely wished that she could jump forward like an hour in time just for a peek at how this was all going to go. Her mind kept galloping off in different directions, predicting all sorts of things that Rosario might say, though it was the imagined look on her face that was zapping Lyra right in the stomach the most. The look she’d seen Rosario aim at Avery, several times. She didn't need to imagine that look, she knew it. Lyra knew she had to push through the fear of it, though. She couldn’t stand the idea of listening to Rosario disparaging other abductees’ stories again, something that’d hurt at the time but had kept her awake at night since. She had to tell her; Rosario not knowing what Lyra had been through was becoming way, way too awful. She really wanted to message Avery while she was waiting, but she’d told him that she was gonna tell Rosario the truth before, and then hadn’t, and if another disaster (another Archer revelation, a fire alarm, an evening of emergency babysitting cuz Jem had double booked herself) interrupted them and she had to admit to Avery she’d failed at telling Rosario again he was gonna start thinking she was a flake. Or a coward. Lyra knew she could be a little flakey but she didn’t want Avery to think she was a coward. So… she didn’t message him, but she did take a couple of minutes to read back over their old messages, and it did do a little to stop herself feeling like a puddle someone had dropped a live wire into. He believed her, it was decent solid ground to stand on, that fact. It woulda made her feel better if Rosario and Avery had got on even a little, the other day. But, welp, nothing she could do bout that cept keep on powering through, same as always. Okay, maybe a lil more nervous than always. Maybe a lot. But she wasn’t gonna let it stop her powering through. This had to be done. She couldn't hide things from Rosario any longer. The truth had to out, and soon. Now. Tonight. It had to. |
