Merlin moved around the edge of the room, going in the same direction as Hecate but slower, pouring an unbroken line of salt along each window frame and doorway he passed. As the first cannister emptied, he pulled out the second and carried on, until he was back at the front entrance, which he left open.
"Nice work," he said softly, glancing up as he set down the cannister next to the door. Hecate seemed to be remembering the shape of it well, but he pulled out the book again and went to a side table to set it down. The book opened the pages ruffled open to the right page on their own, and Merlin carried the table a bit closer so Hecate could refer to it if need be.
