The tests confirmed what the imaging had shown, and the doctor finished marking on the chart. "Your vitals look good," he said, "no signs of infectio-"
"Don't do that," Henry blurted out. "Tell me what you were doing!" Clearly the doctor was being cagey and he wanted to know what that shit with the pen had been.
"You have what's called an incomplete injury to your lower back. There's a fracture in your spine and it's caused some nerve damage. We couldn't test how far the paralysis went until you woke up-"
"Paralysis?!" Henry hissed, his mouth opening wide in shock. So wide it pulled at his stitches and he winced in pain.
"I'm going to get one of the staff social workers to come in and speak with you-"
"W-wait!" This couldn't be happening. It could not be happening. He had gotten out and things were supposed to be fine. "What- Is that wh- why I can't feel my legs?" When the doctor nodded, he asked, "am I- Am I going to be able to walk?"
"It's unlikely, Mr Claus. I feel like I should go find you that social worker."
Henry didn't give a shit about a social worker, he was frantically trying to get out of his restraints. "Take them off!" he howled. "I have to move!"
