God, look at her, buying books and binders and printing! She was definitely not going to be able to afford anything more than rent this week, for sure. It was worth it, though. Something nice for Jocelyn and something attractive to page through on the bus home and also, some kind of transaction between her and the three women. That felt important in a way Lyra couldn't quite explain, though maybe it was just as a way to thank them all for looking out for her today.
