People like that don't disappear people. The chills down Lyra's spine heartily questioned that. Lyra frowned as they walked, her mouth squashed to one side of her face. She'd asked Avery to look into anyone who'd gone missing around any of the AGs, and he hadn't got back to her yet, but did that mean there was nothing to find? How fast did journalists work, anyway? Maybe he had as little free time as she did, and something was waiting to be found but he just hadn't found it yet. Or maybe there was something to find but it was buried under all that money?
Rosario sounded so sure, though, and on this, Lyra didn't feel certain enough to try to contradict her. Avery was right... Lyra could be perfectly confident about something in her head but if she threatened to drag it out into the world by saying it out loud, that confidence faltered. He might disappear you in a– a non-human way– yeah, like that would fly.
Shit. Some things were a lot easier to say in a dark bar. Or a bedroom.
"Well..." she said, instead. "Why would he offer you an interview if he was gonna C&D you? That doesn't make sense– Unless– You think he was gonna try and feed you some false information, throw you off the scent? That could be pretty interesting, actually."
