WHO: Hel & Fenrir
WHEN: Monday
WHERE: Hel's apartment
WHAT: Children of Loki reuniting
WARNINGS: tba
In the old lands Hel had been torn from the side of her brothers even as she tried to cling to fur and scales. She had been the youngest of three monsters, somehow the most monstrous herself for daring to appear near-human. She knew that her twisted form (which mirrored the Æsir and Vanir close enough but never quite close enough) disturbed them far more deeply than the giant size of a wolf or a snake.
So she was cast away down into the freezing pits that would be her home forever more. She would be a Queen, but a queen that could never leave her castle, or feel the sun above, or been seen by the other Gods. Only their beloved Baldr entered her realm, through death, and only he could tell her of things that passed on the surface.
But belief changed Hel and brought her across seas, set her free from the dark halls of Helheim. And now belief would allow something that she had not been allowed since Odin had sent her away: Hel was going to see one of her brothers.
Fenrir had said he would come to her home and she had no doubts that he would find her. Fenrir was a hunter. He may not have been able to come to Helheim but an apartment building in New York was completely different. So when Hel went to answer the knock on the door she put no glamour over her form. She was as she was, half-alive and half-dead, just as her brother would remember her.

Fenrir was bouncing on his toes, acting more like an extremely happy dog than a human. People gave him a wide berth on the street, most likely assuming he was both homeless and crazy. That suited him fine.
How long had it been since he'd seen Hel? He'd been separated from her for even longer than he'd been caged. She'd never seemed monstrous to him. She was his sister and he loved her.
He started to just open the door when he finally arrived at Hel's place, but remembered at the last second that that was apparently bad manners. Humans were odd. So he knocked, and when she opened the door he leapt on her, arms thrown around her shoulders and cheek rubbing against cheek.
"I missed you," he murmured.

Hel laughed and the sound of it surprised her when she heard it, unsure that it had come from her. She didn't even remember the last time she'd laughed. She was the Mistress of Helheim, of the dark and cold places of inglorious death and even she had hated it there. Hel rarely even smiled, but Fenrir leapt on her like a puppy (even though he was wrapped in human flesh) and Hel just laughed.
"I missed you," she told him as well, wrapping her arms tightly around her brother. He was warm and alive and he was her brother.

"Look at us, both on the surface," he said, pulling back a little to grin at her. Smiling was one of the gestures that he'd finally become acclimated to when he was human-shaped. "You hiding Jormungandr here by any chance?"

Hel touched her brother's face with her fingers. She found this shape of his strange, but she could see her old Fenrir beneath it. "Both free now," she agreed with him, the smile leaving her face only because, unlike him, it never felt natural there.
The mention of her brother brought darkness to her eyes and she shook her head but said nothing. She'd heard nothing of their brother since the old days. If he was here, he was silent.

"We'll find him," Fenrir said, tilting his chin up. "If we're out, he's out. Just a matter of time until someone finds him."
He looked around the house curiously. "Got anything to eat?"

They would find him. They would find him and be the three of them again, just like when time was young. She nodded to assure him that it was so.
To his question, though, she frowned. "I can look," she said, leading him towards the kitchen, the hand that flushed with life taking his as the cold, rotting one hung at her side. "I don't eat but there might be things."

He sniffed at her, taking in the smells that surrounded her happily. The dead part of her smelled, well, dead, but that wasn't any deterrent to Fenrir. Everything about his sister comforted him.
"Doesn't have to be much," he said, following her to the kitchen. "Can eat out of your neighbors' trash if you don't have anything. One of them cooked chicken."

In the kitchen Hel remained close to her brother, one of the few creatures to walk the earth that the death goddess would crave the nearness of.
In the cupboards she found a few cans of things and pulled them out, finding that one of them (a tin of salmon) had a lid that didn't need an opener. She cracked it for him and then handed it over. "Better than trash. I can order you real food."
She looked at him and though her expression remained mostly blank, there was a slight hopeful questioning in it. "You'll stay a while?"

Fenrir immediately started scooping the salmon out of the can with his fingers, shoving it into his mouth happily. He swallowed and grinned up at his sister.
"Yes. The pups know I'm visiting you. They might stop by."

"They're welcome too," Hel nodded, unfazed by him eating straight from the can. Human manners were mostly beyond her, something she put on for show just as much as she put on a cloak of living flesh to hide among them. "I went to the forest with them, watched them hunt. Good pups."

It was like clockwork really. Alpha hadn't said not to come and Hati was bored. He'd tugged his brother along, wanting to see Hel and spend time around Alpha. It made him feel better, after losing Moon scent.
When he arrived at Hel's door he was smiling, knocking on the door to see if they would be allowed in.

Skoll had let Hati drag him along, because there was nothing else to do, and he wasn't really sure what was going on with him and Sol at the moment. Besides, he hadn't seen Aunt Hel for a really, really long time.
He waited while Hati knocked, shifting his weight back and forth. As used as he was to walking on two legs, sometimes it was still really weird.

Hel never received guests so when there was a knock on the door she knew exactly who it must be. "I'll bring them in," she told her brother, heading for the door.
The both of them stood there in human skins like Fenrir and she nodded to them both as a 'hello'. "Fenrir is in the kitchen," she said, leading them through and leaving the door as it was. No one was going to rob her.

Fenrir grinned upon seeing his children. As family reunions went, this one was very nice. No one trying to murder them, for one thing, which automatically made it better than previous meetings.
"Hello," he grunted. "Want some salmon?"

He smiled at his aunt and lowered his head to nuzzle her cheek before stepping inside. "Alpha said to come by if we wanted." With a nod he stepped inside, letting Skoll give his greetings before dipping his head down to Fenrir.
Once Alpha was shown dominance he walked to him, fidhing out some salmon. "Sounds good. There is deer at den too" Then he looked to Hel, "been too long Aunt."
