Kaden tried not to walk too fast out of the police station when they let him go, in case they thought he was running and guilty and it made them change their minds. Stepping out into the night, he couldn't help but shiver, even though it was still warm it didn't feel like the streetlights were making as much dent on the darkness as he'd like. He stuck close to Marcie, trying to ignore the feeling that something was still after him, which was impossible, because something was still after him.
He jumped so hard when the phone in his hand buzzed, and he looked down at it automatically, the number of notifications he had waiting on his screen bringing him out of one nightmare and into another. The whole top of his screen was crowded with them. "Um," he said, and thrust his phone toward Marcie, though he was thinking coward as he did. "Can you put that on flight mode? I just- I can't." Coward coward coward.
