WHO: Lyra & Thanatos
WHEN: Monday night

WHAT: Phonecalls! (Because no power in the verse can stop me!)

With Thane gone off on holiday - which she had told him she was incredibly jealous about as she'd never been to Hawaii and he was stealing it all for himself - Lyra was left one friend down. She hadn't realised how much time she managed to waste happily with him until he wasn't around to do so with, but luckily for her he still had a phone even when Lyra called him specifically to tell him he shouldn't be answering it on holiday as she had two days ago. (What was the use of being friends if you couldn't annoy people in silly little ways like that?)

On Monday night she tried on her newest dress purchase and modeled it in the mirror before calling Thane, still trying to decide if she actually did like the dress or not.

When the phone clicked to say he'd picked up, Lyra spoke immediately. "Hey, didn't I tell you not to answer the phone on vacation?"

Thanatos spend most of his 'vacation' trailing after his brothers feeling like a fifth wheel, and avoiding dolphins. Anything created by Poseidon was given a wide berth and a suspicious eye. And he did miss Lyra. His brothers had their wives, and he didn't begrudge them their happiness, but he had no one to really talk to.

And he was pacing, because he'd felt Demeter kill a sister of his and he had no idea what to do about it.

He smiled when he heard her voice, "I think you stipulated if it's work to ignore it, but if it's you I should answer. Besides I like bending the rules." His brothers were out doing Gods knew what, and Thanatos had decided to see the volcanoes and honor the Hawaiian Gods. Seeing he was on their soil he felt it best to do so. They had an insane amount of power here.

"By the way, volcanoes are so much more intimidating up close."

"Likes bending the rules," Lyra sighed dramatically. "Such a bad boy! Oh Thane, how will the ladies ever resist?" She did a little spin, looking at the skirt flowing around her ankles as she did.

"Volcanoes, I'm so jealous! They must be amazing!"

He chuckled, "you tell me. Obviously they do. Besides, it's you or my brothers to talk to, and they are busy with their wives." He smiled to the tone, pouring out a bit of the drink he'd brought with on the base. He had no idea how to worship volcano deity's so he hoped it was enough. He'd leave the bottle for whatever god called this home to find later.

"They are. Pure forces of nature that could kill me if they wanted. I will take pictures. Next time you should come with. You could keep me from the dolphins."

"I'm starting to think you're making up your brothers," Lyra teased gently as she walked into the kitchen and to the fridge. "They're very mysterious. Maybe you're your own brothers, like the dead mother from Psycho."

Lyra sighed happily as she pulled the juice out of the fridge. "I'd love to go to Hawaii sometime. Later, when I'm rich and have all the free time in the world. And I'll pay for us to swim with the dolphins." Lyra couldn't think of anyone else in the world scared of dolphins.

He scoffed, "You can't pay me to swim with them. Or go near them. Poseidon made them. Have you read any myths recently?" For him it was more reality then myth, but that was a different talk. "And I assure you, they are real. Otherwise I'd be married to two lovely ladies who I am sure would eat my spleen if I tried cheating on them. We'll set up a meeting, I promise."

He found a shady spot and sat down, "but what are you up to? Saving all the fun for me I hope?"

"King of the sea Poseidon?" Lyra checked and then said, "yeah, he's the old man with the beard and the trident, likes to ride seahorses around. What's wrong with that?"

"I think you took the fun with you," Lyra complained. "Do you realise that without your guidance I almost bought a pair of leather pants today?"

She wanted to tell Thane that he was way too obsessed with Greek mythology but she let it slide. It was sort of nice knowing someone who had such an interest in it. It reminded her of being around her parents in some ways, because they too had talked about the Greek gods as though they were truly there. They'd had such faith in those old figures.

"Don't encourage me to buy leather pants!" Lyra chided him with a laugh. "Where would I even wear those? It's not as though I go out to the clubs or anything and I don't have a boyfriend that I can dance around of in front of wearing just them. Too expensive for something just to stroke lovingly."

"Life is short. Enjoy the little things," maybe he'd buy the pants for her if she seemed to like them so much. "You don't need an excuse to wear it. Money is something you cannot take with you." "I might not be able to take the money with me," Lyra told him, "but for now I need it to pay my rent. I really like having a roof over my head and doing things like eating. Leather is too chewy to eat." She grinned, despite the fact that he wouldn't see it.

But she laughed at her friends comments about men. "Please, I don't have the energy or time for dating. And apparently when a girl starts talking about how she spent her day with her hands inside a corpse weighing organs it's some sort of turn-off."

"I don't think anyone does roses anymore outside of the movies," Lyra told him, trying to remember if anyone she knew had ever actually received flowers before. It seemed like such an old fashioned idea. "Besides, I don't need a boyfriend to be happy; I already am happy." Lyra was, after all, almost impossible to make unhappy. Even after the death of her entire family she could move on and find the bright side of it all.

He sighed, but let it go. He still felt she should be surrounded by suitors, and not keep herself away so. But she was young, maybe she'd see it his way in time. "Truly now? Just for that I am going to find a flower place here and send you whatever flowers are native to Hawaii. So you'll have a piece of it for yourself"

"Okay!" Lyra said brightly, not going to argue with that. Some pretty Hawaiian flowers would brighten up her apartment wonderfully, and she didn't even mind that they were just going to die in a few days. They'd be pretty while they lasted. "I bet the flowers there are all amazing and bright as well. Bring me back the ocean!"

"As you command," his voice was teasing but he'd find a way to bring the ocean back to her. There were plenty of ways of doing that. He'd bring her here one day though. That much he knew. "You're ridiculously easy to please."

He smiled, even if she couldn't see it, "no, sharks are clear about their intentions. You are either food, or to be ignored. Dolphins have human like intelligence, and cruelty. Did you know a male dolphin will take a female from it's pod and starve her until she mates with him. Or that if a dolphin finds you, it's just as willing to leave you as it is to save you. Dolphins are the humans of the sea. And Poseidon spawn. And this is a god who kind of likes using women."

Lyra was shaking her head with amusement. "Has anyone ever told you that you know way too much about dolphins since you only use this knowledge to give yourself underwater nightmares, some of them involving Greek gods. Besides," she added with a laugh, "you're not even a lady anyway so you'd be safe! From Poseidon and maybe from dolphins if they are, indeed, his evil spawn."

He gave an unbelieving laugh, "yeah if only I knew that would stop him. And I have a friend who is a marine biologist. He tells stories and I am always convinced to stay the hell out of the ocean. We're not meant for it."
