He had a shelving unit from a Home Depot that was an industrial looking thing, populated with gadgets of various origin, the bottom shelf shacked with books. He glanced at the one on the desk as he followed her in.
"That one's broken, but it's an EMF meter. This one works." He picked up a different one from the shelf and held it out. "Electromagnetic frequencies. The button on the side makes it work. It doesn't work very well in here because there's a power box outside." He jerked a thumb at the window and took a drink. "The one there is a thermometer for reading ambient temps." He picked that one up and point it at Lyra. "Ooh, getting hot." He laughed a little at his dumb joke.
