WHO Makaria & Freyr WHEN Saturday (21st August) WHERE A room at the Firmdale Hotel, Brooklyn WHAT A party! Or at least, a sub-section of the party WARNINGS unlikely to be much
Makaria thought that her party was going marvelously!
Persephone had come with her and she'd happily helped set up flowers and bunting around the room, making it just as Makaria had wanted it. Her mother had even gotten the three banners that Makaria had asked her to have made. They read CELEBRATE! and JOY! and GOOD TIMES! and Makaria hung them up in different places around the living room, one of them out on the balcony. She stepped back to admire it, smoothing down the skirt of her blue dress. Makaria hoped she wasn't overdressed... or underdressed! She hadn't specified a dress code, but as soon as she'd put on the little gold and pearl tiara it made her feel like Persephone, and Makaria loved that feeling. (Persephone was dressed far more casually in a yellow and white summer dress, as she was not actually planning to stay for the party.)
The first person to arrive was Freyr, bringing his promised roast vegetables and wine. With delight Makaria had hugged him and introduced him to her mother. The three had talked casually- Persephone seemed to be asking him a lot of questions- but Makaria had to peel off when there was another knock.
On the other side of the door was Diomedes, who picked Makaria up in a hug and swung her around, saying how happy he'd been to hear from her. He lived down in Phoenix, he explained, and hadn't even known Makaria was up on the surface. Over his shoulder Makaria spotted Persephone and Freyr still in deep conversation, and wondered what they were talking about.
Soon others were appearing and Makaria greeted them all and before long they were mostly moving out to sit on the balcony in the beautiful night weather. It was a small venue - the living room and the balcony and a bedroom - but it was also a very small gathering of people. At peak attendance they numbered fifteen, all of them chatting and drinking and having a good time.
Makaria was so glad they were having a good time!
Quite a few hours in the party (and a little tipsy on wine) Makaria came and sat with Freyr in the corner of the balcony, everyone else gathered across the way, or inside.
"Your sister," Makaria said as she sat down, beaming at Freyr, "is so pretty!"
