Kaden still felt like a prickling ball of emotions, some of them spiking out violently at the slightest touch, but he did manage a flash of a smile at Cathal, and tried to stand up a little straighter, wanting to look more competent. Being a prickly ball around Marcie was one thing but he tried harder, around Cathal, and accepted Marcie's card story without it crossing his mind that it was a story at all.
"A bit of water," Kaden said, letting Cathal take Adrian's weight and pulling back, shoving both his hands into his pockets. "And he hasn't hurled since I rang you?"
"Ain't never hurled ever," Adrian mumbled, stumbling sideways and testing Cathal's support.
"He's lying," Kaden pointed out (completely unnecessarily) and gave Marcie a hopeful, sheepish, don't-be-annoyed, I'm-trying-so-hard-to-be-charming smile. "Are you pissed?"
