Marcie took a breath and opened the door anyway, carefully in case Kaden was sitting against it to block her way. The evening sun was shining through the window and making the room glow, but Kaden sat against the wall in the shadowy corner, looking like he was in physical pain.
She swallowed, looking at him a moment before she shut the door behind her and came over to sit down near him, not touching, but close enough.
"What happened there?" she asked, her confusion evident.
