WHO: Kaden and Marcie WHEN: Wednesday night WHERE: Marcie's family's place WHAT: CapsLock!Kaden (is perfectly fine) WARNINGS: Unlikely to be anything new
Kaden’s head hurt and that’s what he was thinking about while Marcie’s family talked over the end of their dinner. His head hurt like his eyes were too hard, or his eyes hurt cos the air was too harsh or… he didn’t know, but maybe he should try to go to sleep tonight instead of spending most of the night watching slow motion videos.
It was just, they looked so cool. Watching a car window shatter or a cat pounce or daytime fireworks at something hundred thousand frames per second. And the videos were like ten minutes each which meant that he only had to watch six of them and that ate up an hour. And the channel had been going for ten years so that was a lot of slow motion videos he had to watch instead of thinking or remembering or sleeping.
Marcie said something to him across the dinner table and Kaden smiled at her, though he had no idea what she said. With a bit of effort he bought himself back, finishing his coke while he listened to Adrian, talking about next Saturday night and how late he was allowed to be out, and if Marco could give them all a ride, and did Kaden want to come?
Kaden blinked his sore eyes. “Where?” he asked, and Adrian looked at him like he was a total space cadet.
“Black Widow? Seb’s birthday?” Adrian kept talking but it faded fast into white noise, into the sound of the blood pumping in Kaden’s ears.
When Marcie moved – and it wasn’t even a movement toward him, she was just the closest person to him – he jumped so hard he dropped his coke, and that sudden sound of glass on wood made him shove himself back from the table. “NO! I DON’T!” exploded from his mouth and he turned on his heels, storming away from them all, from their stupid perfect (he slammed the dining room door) stupid perfect (and the hallway door) STUPID PERFECT (and his bedroom door) fucking family!
