Lyra couldn't stand waiting, it drove her bonkers. She was the kind of girl who'd rather sprint to catch up to a bus than wait at a stop for it to come to her. Rather ask someone if they were interested than wait for them to tell her. Rather take the chocolate mousse out of the fridge and eat it gloopy than wait another hour for it to set.
She couldn't stand waiting today for a different reason; she knew Rosario was going to be upset, and that wasn't okay. Lyra would fight the world to get it to be nicer to Rosario. Rosario tried harder and worked longer than anyone else she knew - she didn't deserve to be crying on the roof.
Not that the world ever worked out like that. Seemed the people who tried the hardest always got the rawest deals.
Lyra's jaw dropped open at Rosario's news. She scrambled up from the chair she'd dragged into the slice of shade slowly growing as the afternoon stretched it out and bounded over to the midpoint of her friend's frantic pace. "No fucking way! The scumbag! The scumbag!"
