No one was listening to Lyra, which happened a whole lot at home but not so much out in the world, but she didn't have time to be hurt because the second she realised it was the second she heard that tone in Rosario's voice. The genuine worry in Rosario's voice, the look on Carla's face she'd never seen before and oh boy Lyra knew she'd put her foot in something. And trekked it all through the carpet.
"Nah, nowhere near," Archer was saying. "He's based in Dubai these days, been there for years." Lyra watched him carefully to try and figure out if he knew what was going on, but he seemed as laid back as ever, like he wasn't talking about how he hadn't seen his father in years. Maybe that's how all these rich boys were, living on the other side of the world from their father. Or maybe that's just what dads did the world over, rich or poor, how many dads actually stuck around? Like... the list kinda started and ended with Marcos. Lyra's frown joined all the other women involved in the conversation.
