"Kim is afraid of flavour," Marcie was just saying, when Kaden moved in quietly next to her, and she turned to welcome him with a bright smile. "Kaden! Hey!" she said, and then wasn't sure what to say for a moment. Drawing attention to his reclusiveness would only embarrass him, but she didn't want to pretend she hadn't been looking for him.
"You look nice," she went with, slightly quieter, and she reached out a hand to smooth his collar flat. "Uh, this is Cathal, he's a friend of Dad's. Big into cars and yo-yos." She only paused a moment before attempting to say his name, and then she looked at him, cringing slightly, knowing it hadn't been quite right. "Did I get it right? Oh my gods- uh, anyway, this is Kaden, my honorary brother. He's still getting over his jetlag." She patted Kaden's shoulder, hoping he would stay and be okay.
