Kaden didn't want to get too far ahead; he'd never got on a plane before, didn't know how it worked and didn't want to look stupid, so Marcie had to get on first so he could copy. He hesitated as the stream of people in front of him started to organize themselves into a proper line, looking back just as Marcie hurried to catch up with him, Much's eyes watching her go.
Uneasily, Kaden thought: What if they searched him at the gate? He didn't have anything illegal, but… what if someone had planted something somehow? Memories surged of his suspension from school, something that - even now, after everything else - hurt to think about. The injustice of it. The way the teachers and cops had looked at him like they all knew he was no good. "What if they search me?" He whispered to Marcie as soon as she caught up. "What do I do?"
