He flipped his hand and set them to rest on the coffee table, and then poured the wine like a sommelier. "Cheers," he said, raising the glass to her in a toast.
As they sipped, he sort of realised he didn't know what to talk about to Theo at all. He'd sort of covered all the conversational bases he could think of. After a long pause, he was about to ask her how life in New York was treating her, when he heard the key rattle in the lock, and Calliope stepped through, her head bent as she scrolled through her phone.
"Hello Theo darling," she said, setting down her briefcase. "Sorry to interrupt your home day, but I left my lunch in the fridge, so I thought I'd pop in and-" She stopped in her tracks, finally looking up and seeing where Orpheus reclined on the sofa, a self-satisfied little smile on his face.
"Hello Mother," he said, and Calliope shrieked and dropped her keys.
"ORPHEUS! When did you- Oh come here, let me look at you!" Orpheus stood up and swept Calliope into a big hug, and she hugged him back tightly, definitely not tearing up slightly at the happy surprise.
