Entry tags:medusa, perseus

Who: Perseus and open to anyone
What: I like Hugh's face so I am posting crap just to see it.
When: Monday night
Where: Pretty much anywhere, he's just walking. Feel free to pick a spot if you want to reply, I won't mind!

Perseus was quite a calm person who kept his head under fire. He had journeyed through hell and back. He was a hero. There was still one ungodly being who could rattle him, despite the fact that he had bested her once before. Medusa. Perseus had nightmares she visited, and he made the mistake of looking into her eyes, night after night. He could feel his body turning slowly to stone, muscles freezing and lungs refusing to fill, solidifying in place until he was unable to move; lifeless and cold.

When Medusa spoke to him, Perseus couldn't stay in his apartment anymore. He pulled his jacket on and took to the streets of New York, walking just to be out. Movement helped. He wasn't stone; wasn't cold. He was flesh and blood. A demigod. But even heroes had doubts and fears. And she was his.

While Perseus may have had his nightmares about her, many of Medusa's own nightmares involved him. He had, after all, been the one to kill her, or close enough. He'd taken her head to be put on some shield like a trophy, undead and unable to even scream as she continued to turn people to stone against their will.

So she left her apartment to walk.

And when she spotted him across the patch of grass she stopped and stared right at him. The Fates were laughing at her.

It would seem The Fates were not only laughing at her, but Perseus as well.

He froze in place, staring at her across the grass. "Medusa," he said, hoping acknowledging her presence would make her leave.

He couldn't look her in the eyes. He couldn't risk his nightmares coming true.

Medusa didn't have to worry about meeting his eye. He could do nothing to her here, not in public, and she couldn't even turn him to stone.

"Big hero won't look at me?" Medusa asked, coming closer. The fact that he was wary of her made Medusa braver. "Afraid to be stone?"

"I never did look at you," Perseus said, not stepping away, but never making eye contact either. "And I am not afraid of you. Just smart." It was a lie, of course. He was afraid.

Medusa came closer, into his personal space now, enjoying that she could make him uncomfortable. He deserved that. He deserved that and so much more for what he'd done to her.

"Not afraid of me?" Medusa asked, moving to sniff his throat without touching him. "You smell afraid."

Perseus made a face at her, leaving no doubt to what he thought of Medusa smelling his fear. "You're creepy," he added, just in case she needed more anyway. "Look, I didn't come out here to hurt you."

"Am what they made me," Medusa just said as she straightened up, glaring at him even though he wasn't see it. His second comment she ignored. She wasn't scared of him. (Much. Right now.)

"You are," Perseus agreed. And he understood the lives of mortals being dictated by the gods. He understood it wasn't always fair or right, but that was how things were. "And so am I."

"Look at me," Medusa said to him, annoyed at him keeping his eyes down.

"No!" Perseus said, his voice slightly raised, proving he was in fact scared. "You're not even subtle anymore!"

Medusa laughed, stepping back away from him. "Big hero," she mocked Perseus. "I walk with humans. You think I still make stone?"

Perseus clenched his jaw as he gritted out, "I remained a hero because I didn't look at you." If he had, his story would have ended differently. And perhaps it would end here, because Perseus, despite knowing better, looked up anyway.

That he actually did look into Medusa's eyes made her step back a little. She'd thought he'd remain looking away but now for the first time Medusa saw her killers eyes. She sneered, forcing the full strength of her remaining powers onto him. Not enough to turn him to stone, but enough to make a strong man feel fearful, feel like their body was turning to stone with horror. It never last long enough now. It was never powerful enough.

Perseus shuddered and stepped back. It felt like his insides had frozen and now the ice had cracked and splintered. "Sweet Zeus," Perseus breathed in horror.

Medusa's smirk was tight although a little triumphant. But his words made her pause and she said, "sweet? We know different kings." She kept her eyes on Perseus even though she knew the effect would already be wearing mostly off.
