Waking up in the morning, knowing that Kaden was alive and well, was a feeling of both immense strangeness and immense relief. The bed was wide and she'd fallen asleep next to him, startling awake every time her foot brushed against his.
She didn't feel rested much. Things were still too up in the air to relax, despite how tired she was. Kaden had a future again now. He would need her help going forward, and she had to think about what he needed rather than what she preferred. Marcie lay in bed and watched the light gather until she figured it was daytime enough to get up and have a shower.
As she stood beneath the hot spray, Marcie couldn't stop her brain from ticking over, thinking at least of the immediate future, of breakfast and Hecate and just what was going to happen next. And everything- everything she needed to tell Kaden, of what had happened, the choices she'd made. Would he be angry that she'd chosen to cremate Trey, like Melpomene had been? Would he think she had taken something away from him with that action? She hoped not.
She had a change of clothes with her, comfortable yoga pants and a slouchy top, and as she stepped out of the bathroom she was twisting her damp hair into a loose side braid. Hecate called her name as soon as she came out, and she looked up, her eyes immediately catching on Kaden.
In the light of day, he seemed all the realer, and she stared back at him with an unconscious smile of relief.
"Coffee? Um, yeah, thank you yes," she said to Hecate, without looking at her. Taking a couple of steps forward she added to Kaden, "Hey. Did- um- did you sleep okay?"
