Entry tags:ariadne, friar tuck

WHO: Ariande and Tuck
WHEN: Saturday afternoon
WHERE: A cafe near Tuck's therapist's office where Ariande has a placement
WHAT: A very unprofessional meeting
WARNINGS: Smutty references

Ariadne looked at the number of tabs open on her laptop and told herself she had to concentrate. That was why she was here, to concentrate, away from distractions.

Here was her office, a small one she’d been given in the clinic for the duration of her placement. It was hers during the mornings, but she shared it with Shona who took clients here in the afternoon. But, lucky for her, not on Saturdays. And extra lucky, no one minded her staying a few extra hours in the afternoon to work on her thesis.

Her other options were 1, her office on campus. It was fine, but quite the commute from Dioynsus’ apartment.

2, her own flat. Not brilliant, because it was tiny, there were several flatmates around, and it was also quite the commute from Dionysus’ apartment.

Or 3, here. A short four city blocks from Dionysus’ apartment and surrounded by professionals who were all focused on the same topics as she was. It was great! Far, but not too far. She could see her clients in the morning and spend the afternoon rearranging one of the chapters of her thesis. The rearranging she should have finished last week – her meeting with her supervisor was on Monday – but…

Well, but Dionysus.

The reunion sex had been mindblowing, and continued to be mindblowing. The parties he constantly held at his place were the most fun she’d had in years – and she’d had fun! So much fun on campus, so much fun with her mortal friends, but… with Dionysus everything was on a whole nother level. He made her laugh all the time, made her sing, and made it very, very hard to concentrate on the work she was supposed to be doing.

Although she supposed she wasn’t helping herself, anytime she went with study location 4: his place. If she was being honest with herself, she knew that setting her laptop up on the table was an invitation to Dionysus to try and steal her attention away. She knew that saying ‘please, I need to get this editing done’ would make him pout those enticing lips of his, and that the harder she tried (she wasn’t trying that hard) to ignore him the faster he’d crawl under the table and encourage her knees to open with kisses up her thighs.

She supposed if she really wanted to concentrate on editing she’d be wearing more than one of his luxurious (and very short) silken robes.

He’d even graded her last night, seeing as she was so focused (he claimed) on doing well instead of doing him. Never mind that she had him pressed up against the wine cellar door at the time, and his fingers were doing invasive and highly arousing things to her, her attention so intensely focused on him even as he complained that it was split.

A- he’d drawn on her naked back with one of those clever fingers later. Could do better.

Could I?! she’d taken the challenge exactly as it was intended to be taken, and tied him tightly to the bed with four of his brightly coloured scarves and tormented him till he gave her the grade she deserved.

Ariadne liked coming top of the class.

She quite enjoyed coming top of everything.

… And now she’d been staring out of the window thinking about him for – shit, twenty minutes instead of doing any work. She gave herself a little slap on the cheek and forced her attention back to the screen, where a whole paragraph highlighted in yellow demanded to be rewritten.

Maybe she shouldn’t have left him tied to the bed. But it wasn’t like he was going to stay tied. She’d stepped over three sleeping bodies in various stages of undress as she made her way through the kitchen for toast this morning, one of them was bound to wake up soon and help him out, either by untying him or… by not untying him. She’d promised to pop home at lunchtime if she hadn’t heard from him, just in case no one was sober enough to manage the knots, but around 11 she’d opened a message from him: a video of someone dragging her tongue up the shaft of his cock and the cheerful text ‘wish you were here!’ written underneath it.

So he was fine.

Concentrate. Ariande shook her head, and cleared all other thoughts from her mind, and for the next hour immersed herself in her work, ignoring the pings of notifications on her phone. Later baby she thought, smiling to herself, and allowing one brief thought of later before pulling her attention back, though her legs remained crossed as she started typing again, thighs squeezed tightly together.

As midafternoon rolled around, she had migrated onto the sofa to read a study that showed how gratitude could predict someone’s wellbeing more accurately than looking at the big five personality traits. Like many things Ariadne ended up reading, it wasn’t related to her thesis directly at all – but it was fascinating. Dionysus wasn’t the only thing that could distract her.

How were you supposed to figure out where an unknown path led if you didn’t wander down it a ways, after all?

She yawned as she finished reading the study, bookmarking the bibliography to pour through later, and picked herself up off the sofa. She’d love a wine, but no, no, she would pop down to the cafe at the corner and get a coffee, do a couple more hours, and then wander home, where there would be wine aplenty.

According to her phone, wine was already flowing back at his place. Not that she needed a phone to tell her that – wine was always flowing, and Dionysus flowing with it. She read through her messages as she walked the short block down to the cafe, most of them pictures, few of them texts, a couple of them videos. She turned her volume down most of the way as she hit play on a video of a bare chested Dionysus (wearing one of her dresses, though the top was unzipped and hung around his hips) making out with a man Ariadne semi-recognised. It was hard to tell, with her husband on his face. She tilted her head curiously as she walked and peered at the screen closer – and walked straight into someone coming out of the cafe. Her phone slipped from her hand as coffee splashed everywhere, and she yelped in surprise and tried to grab it – or the coffee – or him – or to do anything she could to try to help.

Tuck had been dutifully attending therapy since his captivity. Today had been a doozy. He had ended up crying about powerlessness for nearly the entire hour and afterwards he had very much needed a drink.

He settled for coffee.

Or he would have, had it not been summarily knocked from his hands the second he stepped back onto the street. The coffee soaked into his clothes, burning hot. "Shit!" he yelped at the sudden heat, and it was like he saw it in slow motion as the cup and the phone slipped. Tuck had to go for one or the other, cup or phone, so he bet down and caught the phone quickly - Merry Men reflexes, and then he stood there, dripping, the coffee cooling on his skin.

"Oh shit I am so sorry!" Ariadne reached out automatically to pull his shirt away from his skin to try and stop it burning him, and then had second thoughts about just grabbing some strangers clothes as there were so many people who would react badly to that, and released his shirt just as fast. Instead, she quickly pulled off her wrap instead and passed it to him. "Here - use this to mop it up. Are you hurt?"

Tuck didn't mind at all that she tried to touch his shirt, but he accepted her wrap just as gracefully. "Ah- Bit singed, but nothing catastrophic," he laughed easily. "Here," he handed her back her phone, "are you alright?" Slamming into him couldn't feel great, he was still all angles.

Well, thank all the gods he was laughing, Ariadne grinned a little more at him in relief. He was all pointy, but she'd been through worse. "Oh I'm fine, I bounce, and these are coffee coloured anyway," she said, brushing a splash of coffee off her trousers before straightening up to take her phone back, though she froze, mouth open, because Dionysus and his man were still making out on the screen (Dionysus giving her a thrilled thumbs up behind the other man's back.) "Aaha oops-" she grinned, sheepish, but more concerned about how he was going to take than than embarrassed to be caught out watching it. She and Dionysus wouldn't have lasted as long as they had if she was easily embarrassed by the things he did, but there were plenty of men who'd react terribly to being forced to watch two other men kissing. She babbled a bit: "That's just... my husband, having a good time - uh - sorry you had to see that!"

On second thoughts, if he was the judgmental sort, that explanation probably wasn't helping...

Tuck grinned widely then, as he dabbed at his clothes with her wrap. "It did look like a good time!" he said easily. "Look, I need another coffee, and you were heading in there too, should we head inside?"

Ariadne heaved a breath of relief that was also undeniably a laugh. "He'd be thrilled his audience is widening - please let me buy you another coffee, this was entirely my fault."

Tuck opened his mouth to protest, but he closed it again. "If it will make you feel better, sure," he said with a smile. "It's really alright though, these things happen!"

"You're very sweet," she said, sliding her phone back into her pocket as she realised - oh - not just sweet, this man had the odd sensation of another immortal. She was always a little rusty at picking up on that feeling, especially after going years without meeting anyone else like her. "It will definitely make me feel better for barging all over the place like that - staring at my screen. It's just that we've been apart for so many years, finding each other again has been a little all-encompassing - you probably don't need to hear all that, though..." But then, as an immortal who also lived in New York, he'd probably seen and heard it all, anyway.

"Oh don't you fret, I understand entirely. If I had been apart from my partner for so long I wouldn't look away from the screen either." He gave her a kind smile, hoping to ease her worry.

She chuckled as she stepped into line behind the counter. "Even if it's videos of them making out with someone else?" she asked with a wink, feeling comfortable enough to make fun of herself. He seemed nice, but then again - Ariadne thought most people seemed nice. It had got her into trouble and definitely got her hurt on multiple occasions and still, did she learn?

But - he seemed nice! Sweet, non-judgmental and he adored his partner. Three ticks!

"I have to say, that's something Will hasn't tried yet," Tuck laughed. "Our relationship is open though, and I do occasionally get updates! So yes, even if!" he winked right back. "Oh right, coffee! Just an Long Shot in the Dark. I need the caffeine."

Aah, Will, well that explained the lack of homophobia then. "I like your style and I'll shamelessly join you," Ariadne said, figuring that tonight was going to be another late one. "I'm going to sit and stare at the world for a bit, did you want to join me, or shall I order yours takeaway?"

Tuck considered that, but she seemed like charming company and he was already feeling far better than he had been pre-coffee spill. "Sitting and staring at the world for awhile sounds like a wonderful idea, especially with such charming company," Tuck said with a grin.

Ariadne laughed again, enjoying his flattery, and turned around to order the coffees. Snagging the number off the counter, she spotted a little table by the window that looked out over the street. Good for people watching, though she tended to only do that when she was alone, and not when sitting down with some interesting, immortal fellow. "My name's Ariadne, though most people call me Harry or Harriet. It's strange - aside from my husband, I haven't run across anyone else like us in years," she said, settling in. That was true - aside from that young man down at the docks in the summer, but he, like so many others, never called back.

"Ah, Ariadne!" he said, smiling widely. "Lovely to meet you! I'm Michael, though most people know me as Friar Tuck. Or just Tuck. So you haven't run into many from your pantheon then? I can't seem to stop running into Greeks though until today that wasn't literally!"

Of course she'd shown her shirtless, slutty husband to a Friar - that was too funny. Ariadne bit her lips together, chuckling again as he spoke.

"Oh, well, I know they're around," she explained, when he bought up her pantheon. "I'm only recently back in the city, and I'm trying to write a thesis. I know it's going to happen eventually, but getting involved in Greek drama and trying to finish a Masters is not the easiest balancing act in the world."

"Oh I imagine not," Tuck said, nodding. "We find ourselves in the midst of it on occasion. My dear friend Will Stutely is dating wonderful Clio. She's such a dear," he said fondly. Then he added, "different Will than Will Scarlet who is my partner," just in case that confused her. "Masters, amazing! What are you studying?"

"Only on occasion? When your friend is dating a Muse?" Ariadne said teasingly. She liked the Muses a lot, but Dionysus had mentioned there were several in the city at the moment and that always led to... she was going to be generous here and say 'a life less boring.' "Clio is a dear - I should at least look her up, I bet there are things I could delve into in that library of hers..." She only drifted off for a moment, thinking about Clio's collection before she pulled herself back to the present. "I'm doing psychology - trauma recovery and survivor's guilt, specifically - at the moment. But I've done a little of everything, over the years. When things get a bit much I tend to run off to University."

Tuck was going to talk more about Clio, until Ariadne mentioned her thesis topic. He squirmed a little in his chair and blew out a breath. "Phew, that's- That's heavy," he said, his eyes now trained on the table. She would have a field day with him.

"I know," she said gently, her voice losing a lot of her jovial tone because of how crystal clear it was that he was uncomfortable. "But I've seen so much, watched the people of this world go through so much, it's only right to use what I've learned over my long life to help them out. We don't need to talk about this though, and don't worry, I am not going to start mining you. Here look, I think this is us." The coffees were only just being loaded up onto a tray, and still had a way to go till they arrived at their table, but they were an easy distraction if he needed it.

Tuck was relieved for the distraction and for the fact that she was changing the subject. He offered her a smile, genuine, if only a little wavery. "I think that's really beautiful," he said, since he did. "I do that a little. With my church though," he said, leaning back so their coffees could be set in front of them. "Thank you," he said to the server, then turned back to Ariadne. "My church is a place where people can feel loved and accepted instead of ostracised. And we spend a lot of time on community service."

"That sounds like more than just 'a little' to me," Ariadne pointed out, though she wasn't about to start berating a man who she'd only just met for talking himself down - not after just promising him she wasn't going to mine him. "It sounds like a lovely place, really for the people."

"No, that sounds fantastic - who doesn't love rainbow lights? Well-" she could think of a fair few people, actually. "-No one worth mentioning at our table. I love rainbow lights. Don't let this outfit fool you," she waved her hand at herself, the neat shirt and (fairly) crisp lines of the jumpsuit blending nicely into the coffee stain on the front. "Underneath, I can be rainbow bodysuits and flashing lights galore."

Tuck opened his mouth in pleased surprise. "Wait, wait!" he pulled out his phone and scrolled to the photo of himself, his beard dyed fuchsia. "My church had a drag night for charity and I dyed my beard pink. We really should have another one soon. What colour should I go this time?!"

Ariadne dragged her chair closer so she could lean over and look at his screen, laughing at the brightness of the beard, the joy so obvious in the photo. "I love it," she said, looking up at him with a considering eye. "Dual colours - pink and blue-" she snapped her fingers as an idea occurred to her. "With purple lipstick. Bi pride flag, right across your face. Yes?"

"Ooh!" Tuck said, interested. "I do think of myself as more pan, but the bi flag is so much prettier, don't you think? If I do another drag night my daughter can help out with this one too! She's a queen. A pretty famous one," he said, flicking through his photos to find one of Michaela. "Her stage name is Jezza Belle, but she's my Michaela."

"A pan friar - Friar Pan should be your stage name!" Ariadne was pretty pleased with herself for that one, her chuckle turning into a low, impressed whistle at the getup of the queen on the screen. "She is working that dress. You have to have another drag night for charity - I'll help!" She caught herself getting excited, and pulled back a fraction, tucking both her hands innocently under her chin. "I can't resist a party," she said, as shameless explanation.

She giggled again at his 'Friar pan on the backburner' quip, though she wasn't sure he knew he'd quipped at all. "Well, ever since getting caught up in Stonewall, I've always had time for the queens. I'd be honoured to help out."

"I was a nurse at the time, working in one of the free clinics not far from Christopher Park, so a lot of the people that came through were people who slept on the street," Ariadne picked up her coffee, swilling it around the cup for a moment. "I knew a few of them would get into Stonewall Inn so that people would buy them drinks, and sometimes I would buy them drinks, or bring them home with me. One of them showed up on my door after the first night of riots, nose broken. I went back with him for the second night, I'd never seen him look so free, like maybe he could fight for a place in the world and win. It was vicious and beautiful, the whole thing. I'd learned a long time ago that sometimes you have to destroy the status quo for your freedom, and it was... it was really something to see, watching all those mortals who'd just had enough of it."

Tuck listened with rapt attention, his smile slowly growing wider and wider. When she finished, he gave her a deeply fond look. "I think we were destined to meet today, you and I. My church is all about giving LGBTQ people a family when they might not have one of their own. Teaching love and acceptance rather than ostracism. We're continuing the fight they started at Stonewall. And we stand with our siblings of colour as well, protesting with Black Lives Matter. It seems you and I believe in the very same things."

Ariadne nodded, smiling back at him as she listened. "It's part of who I am: any system that sends people to their deaths in silence has to go." There was a gravity behind her statement, as was right. She'd orchestrated her brother's death as the only way she'd been able to see to end the continuous sacrifices from Athens. There was still a lot of emotion tied up in that, even now. But the system was wrong, and so, it had to go.
