She hadn't even felt Morgan coming, which confirmed all her fears that she wouldn't have noticed if Ares or Apollo were to creep up behind her. Such a comforting thought.
Hecuba, though, had ears and a nose that didn't rely on magic, and she'd got to her feet as Morgan approached, announcing the fact that someone else was coming. Kaden backed even further under the car, putting a wheel between himself and Morgan (what could he sense, she wondered?)
"That doesn't surprise me," Hecate said with a crooked half smile, using the car to help herself to her feet. One of her legs had attracted pins and needles again, lovely. "I feel like one of them."
She tried to feel out Morgan, and maybe there was something about her, or maybe it was simply that Hecate already knew what she was supposed to feel like, knew the power that ran under her skin, and could guess the contents of her bag and her heart with an accuracy that had nothing to do with magic at all.
