He backed up a couple of paces to give himself space, rolled his shoulders, settled his left hand around the grip, refamiliarising himself with the weight and the balance of it. He brought his bow arm up straight, adjusted his posture. Hooked the middle three fingers of his right hand around the bowstring, imagining himself nocking an arrow, lining up the shot.
