"They deserved to die but you somehow think you have any entitlement to his body?" Marcie's voice was getting higher and more strained. She felt hot and righteous and furious, and her eyes shone with unshed tears. "After you cut him down so he couldn't run? After you gave him no escape but death?!"
Turning on Ares, Marcie glowered. "Where is Kaden?" she demanded. "I want his body, I want to take care of him. He doesn't deserve to die unmourned anymore than Tragos did!"
Ares snorted dismissively. "He's a long way from you, girl, unless you enjoy picking up scattered, tooth-scarred bones in the Canadian wilderness."
The tears finally slipped free and Marcie's face turned hateful. She felt light-headed and untethered from the ground, separated from everyone else in the world in her own personal hell.
