"Yeah... maybe." Unlike Kaden, Marcie had ties. She had her parents and brothers in Wisconsin, she had friends here in New York. She had dreams that didn't involved changing her name and running away with a stolen baby. When it had been just the boys, she'd thought- perhaps naively- that she could keep her own name and join them and still have contact back home. But now...
But she didn't want to say no. She didn't want to leave Kaden so isolated and scared, because scared, desperate people made mistakes.
This whole ordeal was a mistake.
"I'll have to think on it. It's not super easy for me to just pack up and go, but I'll consider it, okay?" She paused a moment. "Where are you heading? Maybe... I can come meet you?"
And do what? Betray him and take the baby back? Stay and look after him? She had no idea, she just wanted to see him safe for herself.
