Marcie listened to Kaden speak through his grief, hiccupping and sobbing his words, her own sobs subsiding. She felt utterly dejected, scared, and angry- oh yes, there was anger underneath that was only just starting to bubble its way up. A helpless, impotent fury against the world and how unfair it was.
"Kaden," she sighed softly when he finished speaking. "I hear what you're saying. I do. But... I just... I don't want to lose you too. You're my family. I can't lose you too."
