Cin found she believed him when he said he was harder to kill than he looked. There was constantly something that said she was underestimating him, even time she thought of him as some weakling. He didn't have those muscles of the Murphy boys like she'd gotten so used to, but there was something about him.
Of course, that didn't translate to Gang Beasts. She let them keep playing and walked out into the kitchen, the open archway between the rooms meaning she could still see them sitting on the couch when she looked back. But mostly she was looking out the window into the front yard, checking she couldn't see Cy lurking. She lifted her hand up to her throat, but it didn't seem so bad. She felt like she'd gotten away with something there.
What happened tomorrow night? Or the night after that? She couldn't run away, but she knew it was only a matter of time before Cy showed back up to make her sorry.
She closed the curtain again and went to collect three beers from the fridge. She pushed one into Bailey's hand and then passed another to Archie while Ruth and Jake fought each other to be the victor. Then she cracked open her own can.
"I'm going to study," Bailey said, standing up more loudly than was required. She gave Archie a withering glance before heading up the stairs with her beer. Cin shrugged and sat down in the seat Bailey had just vacated.
"Fuck yeah!" Jake shouted as his little coloured sprite was victorious. "Eat it, Ruth!"
Cin reached out a hand. "Okay, pass me a controller then."
"Even though you suuuuck at this," Jake told her, but threw it in her direction.
"And you suck at life," she told him, "so that's fair."
