Marcie looked at herself in the mirror, and took a deep, calming breath.
Curse Apollo. Curse him for existing to torment them just for kicks. Their fear and turmoil meant nothing to him. She picked up her phone and opened the contacts list, hovering over Aphrodite at the top of the list.
What was Aphrodite really going to do, though? She had already made a bargain to save Marcie. What could she do to save Kaden and Tragos? Would she even want to, just on Marcie's word? Marcie placed her phone down again, uncertainty churning in her belly.
"Hey, sorry," she said as she came out again and sat down next to Tragos. "So what do you want to do now?"
"We need to get some sleep," Tragos said, looking over at Kaden who shoved another mouthful of chips into his mouth, defiantly, and didn't make a move. "We have so much driving to do tomorrow, K," Tragos insisted. Kaden could admit he was right and still hate it. Could understand he needed to do his share tomorrow and still want to stay up all night with Marcie.
"Left my pillow in the car," he said, sulkily.
"I can give you one." Marcie got up again and went to the cupboard for a blanket, then to her room for a pillow. She felt an ache in her chest for Kaden. She'd come to love him like a brother when she hadn't expected to; he had such a way of worming into her heart before she'd even realised. When she brought the pillow and blanket back, she had to be careful not to look him in the eyes or it was going to set her off.
