Tuck and Will made their way to the cafeteria, where they purchased an abundance of sandwiches and fruit and bags of crisps to tide everyone over.
Then they returned to the waiting room and sat some more, for hours, waiting for some news. Anything. They hardly spoke really, huddled together and hoping.
Finally, the doctor returned, looking exhausted. "Mr Ceredig? She's not out of the woods yet, but she's stable and awake. And she's asking for you."
"How- How is the baby?" Tuck asked, worried.
"Stable too," the doctor said, but added, "also not out of the woods, but fighting. Follow me, Mr Ceredig." Henry squeezed Iestyn's hand, and watched him go.
The doctor led him to Addy's room and she lay there, pale and weak, respirator on her face. "Iestyn," she said weakly.
