Alan reached out and put his hand on Will’s shoulder, looking at him seriously. “I know you only did it because you were hurting,” he told him, squeezing the shoulder. “I’ve had a lot of time to think about how much you were hurting.” Maybe Alan should have shown him more focus and attention after Will’s imprisonment, maybe he hadn’t been a good enough friend there either. He didn’t say that outloud though, sure that it would turn into a cycle of recriminations.
