WHO Freyr, Tuck
WHEN Saturday afternoon
WHERE The Parsonage to start with
WHAT Expanding the social circle
WARNINGS none

Freyr stopped at the gate, and checked his phone again to triple-check the address Much had given him. Yup, this was it. He pursed his lips slightly.

He really should have realised that of course the Friar Tuck lived next to a church, he was a friar, and as Much had said, ran the food bank under the umbrella of his parish. He tapped the phone against his hand as he dawdled at the gate. He didn’t like churches. Didn’t go near them, as a rule. How to marry that with needing to step up to the front door and knock...

Of course, standing at the front gate and staring at the building for ages did also have a way of attracting attention...

Tuck had been shoving a sandwich into his mouth when he noticed that there was someone standing outside the front door on the camera feed. He blinked and swallowed his bite of sandwich and then he rose uneasily from his chair.

The person on the other side of the door didn't look evil, but one couldn't be too careful. Tuck grabbed a knife, expertly concealing it up his shirt sleeve, and then he slunk to the front door to pull it open.

"Can I help you?" he asked, not putting his body directly in front of the open door. The person was immortal. Interesting.

"Oh! Hello!" Freyr said, and waved, still keeping his distance. "You must be the good friar, ja? Is Much in? I should've just messaged him, but I was trying to be spontaneous." He looked up at the church again, and decided that the Parsonage was okay. It wasn't really a part of the church itself anyway.

Tuck narrowed his eyes, looking over the person on the other side of his door. Someone was after Much? He let the knife in his hidden hand out a little. "Who wants to know?" he asked, his voice low and dangerous.

"I'm Freyr, he and I met last weekend, I- that is to say, my community garden association- donated some cans and produce for your charity. Much gave me this address, he said he lived here." Freyr gave Tuck a completely unruffled sunny smile, and held up his phone as proof.

Immediately Tuck dropped the tough at and he grinned, opening the door wider. "Oh thank god!" he laughed. "Look, I- I thought you might be after my friend, but I am literally in no shape to fight anyone so I am so relieved. Hi, I'm Tuck," he said, waving Freyr in. "Much isn't here, but come in out of the cold!"

"Oh thank you." Freyr took one last glance at the church and then came into the house, stamping his boots off at the door. "I am a lover, not a fighter, so you have nothing to fear from me! What a lovely home you have." He stepped in and looked around, tossing Tuck a smile over his shoulder.

"Why thank you," Tuck said with a smile. He headed into the kitchen to try to put the knife back as discretely as possible. "Would you like to wait for Much? I don't think he'll be long. I can fix you some tea or coffee?"

"Sure, either, well tea maybe, but whatever you're making. I like it sweet either way." Freyr sat down on an armchair, making himself comfortable in the living room. "So how do you get along here, then? Do all you Merry Men live quite close?"

Tuck nodded and he flicked the kettle on and prepared a pot. He set he sugar bowl on a tray and filled his little milk jug up, plopping that on the tray as well. "I suppose we do, though not as close as we used to! At the moment though, there's four of us here at times. Much, my boyfriend, Will, our friend Will Stutely, and myself!" The kettle dinged and he poured the hot water over the leaves, and carried it all into the lounge room. "Still quite different from all huddling together in a forest."

"Ah- well, I am familiar with living with my people in Asgard, things could get pretty cosy on the ships, you know? Going for hunting trips to catch a boar or a stag for the spit- that was the life, eh?" Freyr took the teacup he was offered, making it sweet and milky. "I miss my people at times. That's why I'm reaching out, finding more long-living people like myself. It's been a while since I was in close contact with anyone."

Tuck looked wistful as he made his own tea. "It was the life," he said, sighing a little. "Must be difficult to be so scattered. So what do you do then, other than helping out food banks?"

"Oh, I own and operate a fertility clinic." Freyr sipped his tea. "I'm not a doctor, but I hire plenty of good ones and I keep my hand in the mix. We have a pretty high success rate, and a loooong waiting list." One might even say an unnaturally high success rate. Sometimes it was good to be a god. "I enjoy spending time with mortals. They're always so appreciative, you know?" He smiled.

"Oh, that's wonderful!" Tuck smiled warmly, thinking of people who could start families because of Freyr's help. "I run my church, but it's not a typical church. Our parish is mostly LGBTQAI+ and we try to focus on community and care, rather than anything else."

"Oh, right," Freyr said with a nod. "Not as much highway robbery at the moment, then? I admit, your stories are quite exciting, I pictured you all with a bit more derring-do, and a few less... doilies," he said, nodding towards the side table, where sat a couple of lovely examples made by a parishioner. "Not that I'm judging! Times change, don't they."

"They certainly do," Tuck said with a smirk. "And my role was always more of a caretaking role anyway. Not that I couldn't also take someone out if I needed to! I've just expanded my flock these days," he smiled warmly.
