Thalia had frozen halfway to sitting when Clio started her way down the list of awful and crazy. The arguing... Urania had said something about there being regular arguments, and Mel going through a break-up on top of pregnancy— but— Apollo? What had happened to—
And then Clio reached the craziest and the most awful, and Thalia sat with a heavy thump, looking stricken. She immediately wanted to stand again and wrap her sister in another hug, wanted to cling tight to her. "No," she breathed.
Thalia had been there the last time Lucifer had attacked Clio. She'd seen exactly how bad it had been, exactly how much it had shattered her sister, and it showed in the way the blood drained from her face. She reached for Clio's hand and gave it a tight squeeze. "Are you— did— did he hurt you?"
"He..." Will hesitated, glanced at Clio as though seeking permission. His expression, which had started to relax at the warmth of Thalia's greeting, was tense and drawn. "He burned Clio. Her leg. Michael scared him off, healed the worst of it."
Thalia looked from Will to Clio, feeling sick. In her horrified silence, a foolish thought crossed her mind: And all you got her was a cake! A dumb smiley-face cake! That's not going to help at all!!
