WHO Freyr, Much WHEN Saturday morning WHERE The Community Harvest WHAT A chance immortal encounter while doing the charity thing WARNINGS none
Freyr checked the last box of cans off on his list, and looked up with a smile. “That is great! We have 321 cans of goods for the food bank, along with this lot of gorgeous winter vegetables from the greenhouse! Thank you everyone!” Everyone standing around in the winter cold applauded, a muted sound bundled in mittens and gloves. Freyr checked his watch. The guy with the van for the food bank should be along any minute. He held up his hand again for attention.
“I don’t want to keep you all shivering in the cold, so I’ll just say, thanks so much, and see you again soon, alright? Þakka fyrir!”
People clapped again, and then started to disperse, hurrying through the snow and slush. At least the sun was trying to make an appearance this morning, even if it was still abominably cold. Freyr put his clipboard down and stretched out his arms, making his back crackle after all the heavy lifting.
“Hey, Harry? Do you need me to wait with you until the van comes?” That young sorority girl had followed him across town, seemingly anxious to participate in Freyr’s charity. Judging by the box of assorted cans, she had just thrown anything from the shelf and bought it. He wasn’t sure now many needy people wanted to eat canned artichoke hearts, but at least now they had the opportunity.
He gave her a warm smile, and reached out to clasp her arm. He didn’t need any of the other ladies he had sometimes-things with to see and get jealous. “It’s okay, Lily. Thank you so much for your hard work, but I don’t want you to freeze in this cold! Maybe I’ll call you later, let you know the next time we have some work that needs doing?”
“Yeah- that’d- that’d be cool, sure,” Lily replied, an edge of uncertainty in her voice, so Freyr threw in a little wink that made her blush and cheered her right up.
He watched her go, tilting his head slightly. Apollo had excellent taste in women. But he had a job to do right now, and not yet a van to load it into.
