Who: Lucifer and Nina Maynard When: Wednesday Where: Coffeeshop Warnings/Ratings: Lucifer, some minor stalking, probably mentions of heart-eating and incest, TBD
More often then not, Lucifer was bored out of his skill. Mortals were hardly entertaining until they came down to the Pit, and even then it was a stretch. They were all the same, all predictable to the core and ever eager to dive into his arms. There were the rare exceptions, but they got rarer every day. Thankfully today was not such a day. He'd followed instinct and this niggling feeling of 'different' until it had warranted him a result.
A young girl, with the air of something about her. Usually Lucifer didn't care. She wasn't immortal, nor any of his breed, but there was still an interest there. He'd followed her to the coffeeshop, staying out of sight until he'd gotten there, and when he entered the shop and ordered he studied her from behind his shades. Pretty enough. With a smile he walked over to her once he had his drink, setting the shades in his pockets. "Afternoon."

[info]awaitingstorms 2011-05-19 06:03 am UTC (link) Track This Nina needed to escape the apartment for a little while, the four walls feeling far too trapping while Amidio was out with their Aztec patron. (Nina was supposed to go training today as well but instead was giving her muscles a break.)
At the coffee shop she ordered herself a peppermint latte and took a sit by the window, chin on her hand as she stared out at the people.
Nina looked up when she heard a man's voice and replied, a little unsure, "afternoon."

[info]dawnstar 2011-05-19 06:22 am UTC (link) Track This "I couldn't help but notice you," he smiled his charmer's smile and offered his hand, "Lucas. Mind if I join you?" He watched her, calm and patient. Sometimes he could play this game. He wasn't always torture and vile.
Well not until he knew what he was dealing with, and if she was at all of any use to him.

[info]awaitingstorms 2011-05-19 06:26 am UTC (link) Track This Nina reached out to shake the stranger's hand, because she just wasn't very good at being rude to people even if they were already making her a little uncomfortable. "Nina," she told him. "And... sure."

[info]dawnstar 2011-05-19 06:31 am UTC (link) Track This "Wonderful," smiling he sat down. He had a name, that was something at least. He couldn't get a good feel of her though, but there was something there, just under her skin. "I'm terribly sorry for just walking up to you like that, but I still believe in a time where people were more friendly. Now we all hide ourselves, and pretend to be alone."
"Are you from around here?"

[info]awaitingstorms 2011-05-19 06:51 am UTC (link) Track This That sounded good to Nina, although she was still pretty sure he was just hitting on her. Should she mention that she was involved with someone? (If he wasn't hitting on her then she'd feel like an idiot.)
"Born and bred," Nina lied. Safer to not mention anywhere near Texas. There were still police looking for them both, there had to be.

[info]dawnstar 2011-05-19 06:57 am UTC (link) Track This "Oh wonderful," he didn't know whether to believe her or not, but he'd play this game. He wondered if he could lure her into a trap. "I'm from across the pond myself so I'm not too sued to the place yet. Tell me, what does a New Yorker suggest for a tourist, without being too much of a tourist. I want to see all the little hidden places."

[info]awaitingstorms 2011-05-19 07:05 am UTC (link) Track This Nina shrugged a little, hands around her latte. "I suppose that depends what you're interested in," she told him, trying to think of what she knew from her last few months here. "I don't really know a lot of secret tourist things. Do the statue. Everyone does the statue so it must be okay."

[info]dawnstar 2011-05-19 07:12 am UTC (link) Track This He smiled, "a bit of everything. I like the culture around here. So different. I keep feeling like I'm walking into ten different countries depending on the neighborhood I'm in." He watched her, trying for the trap again "that's the point though. I don't like doing what everyone else does. Surely a NEw Yorker must have some secret things around here. Places only they know about. Little pieces of history?"

[info]awaitingstorms 2011-05-19 07:23 am UTC (link) Track This Nina shrugged a little uncomfortably, watching her latte. "I'm not very cultural," Nina told him. "I'm more of an indoors person. My husband and I usually just stay in." She was pleased to have slipped a mention of Amidio in there. She looked up at the man, unable to completely hide her interest. There was something about him.

[info]dawnstar 2011-05-19 07:28 am UTC (link) Track This "Ah, such a pity." Truly a husband didn't really bother him. Infidelity was something he tended to encourage in the mortals. Made it all the funner. Lust was one of his favorites anyway.
"Beside stay in, what do you do?"

[info]awaitingstorms 2011-05-19 07:41 am UTC (link) Track This Nina shook her head. "Oh, not much..." she said as she tried to work out what she was feeling. She leaned forward a little. "I'm sorry, but have we met somewhere before? You seem really familiar."

[info]dawnstar 2011-05-19 07:48 am UTC (link) Track This Smiling he shook his head, "if we have I can't quite recall you." He studied her, long and evenly. He'd be damned but he couldn't put his finger on it, what ti was about her that made her so different.
"But there is a sense of familiarity about you. Trickiest thing."

[info]awaitingstorms 2011-05-19 07:55 am UTC (link) Track This Nina smiled, relaxing a little into her seat as she watched him. And as she let herself go a little the natural temptations and discords that ran without her moved to the surface a little more. "Weird," she said, but she didn't sound uncomfortable about it.

[info]dawnstar 2011-05-19 08:02 am UTC (link) Track This His eyes widened just a fraction at the sensation. So familiar, and yet so very different. He was growing tired of playing. He leaned forward, looking deep into her eyes. Mirrors to the soul they called them. He hoped they were right. "Tell me now, honestly, between the both of us. Who are you really? Or are you too old and have forgotten your roots?"

[info]awaitingstorms 2011-05-19 08:04 am UTC (link) Track This Nina froze a little and then, her eyes on his, she whispered, "you're one of them, the gods."

[info]dawnstar 2011-05-19 08:11 am UTC (link) Track This "Clever girl," he was past pretending, "and something like that, yes. And you're either very old, or very young." He paused then, "or only part of it all. Greeks you can sense a mile off, so you're not theirs. You don't have the feel of Christian in you so I'm quite baffled."

[info]awaitingstorms 2011-05-19 08:17 am UTC (link) Track This "My father is one of the Aztec gods," Nina said, keeping her voice down. She didn't know what to make of this man, but maybe he was one of the Christians since he'd said it? Did he know Mary Magdalene?

[info]dawnstar 2011-05-19 08:26 am UTC (link) Track This He frowned to that, "huh. Was sure we'd killed them all. Suddenly I'm glad we didn't." He grinned at her. "They have many names for me. Morning Star. Lightbringer." He smirked, "Call me Lucifer."
Smiling he set his hands on the table. "And you are now of interest to me. Pretty package, and all that feel of temptation just beneath the skin."

[info]awaitingstorms 2011-05-19 08:29 am UTC (link) Track This Lucifer. Of all the people to run into, Nina had run into Lucifer. She drew her own hands back as he put his on the table, pulling hers onto her lap and away from him.
"I think our conversation is over," Nina said nervously.

[info]dawnstar 2011-05-19 08:33 am UTC (link) Track This "It'll be over when I say it's over girl. Not all the discord and temptation in the world will stop me from speaking to you. You're a by blow of an old forgotten relic long past it's time. I'm not. You'll sit, like a good girl, and talk to me or else I'll hear you scream." He smiled pleasantly. "I have very little patience for people like you. Now. Which one was he?"

[info]awaitingstorms 2011-05-19 08:38 am UTC (link) Track This Could Nina call out for someone to help her? She can't a glance around the other patrons, but if this man really was the Devil then there was nothing she could do.
So she looked back at him, forcing herself to hold his gaze. "Tezcatlipoca."

[info]dawnstar 2011-05-19 07:06 pm UTC (link) Track This Didn't sound familiar to him, but he'd look it up. Such a god could be useful. "Doesn't ring a bell. You're interesting girl. Young, but full of sin and old god. Makes me wish you were ours. But the rules blur on those things."

[info]awaitingstorms 2011-05-20 02:47 am UTC (link) Track This "I don't believe in sin," Nina told him unsteadily. But that was a lie, wasn't it? How many times had she thought that the attraction to her brother was a punishment sent from God? That the hunger was that as well? Nina had never even really believed in any sort of ideas of God until everything had gone wrong. Then it seemed like every Sunday school idea was lurking just at the back of her mind waiting to latch on.

[info]dawnstar 2011-05-20 03:51 am UTC (link) Track This He laughed, "don't lie pretty thing. I can smell it on you. Besides, I can introduce you to some. They'd find it amusing. Pride especially. She does so love to correct the mortals." He finished his drink and leaned back in his chair. "Tricky thing being stuck between worlds kid. Born of old blood, raised in a world that doesn't get it. You're choices are, in essence, simple. You follow the blood, or you jump into the Pit."
(Reply to this)(Parent) (Thread)
[info]awaitingstorms 2011-05-20 04:12 am UTC (link) Track This Follow the blood was so apt in Nina's case that she couldn't help the tiny upward curl of her lips. She pushed it back down though and instead only said, "I don't feel like meeting any your sins. Besides," she added, "you're too late. We've already got people from the other of you guys side looking out for us."

[info]dawnstar 2011-05-20 04:29 am UTC (link) Track This He laughed again, "really? Who? Saints don't stop me, my brothers are a passing fancy to me. I rather enjoy ruffling their feathers. They need a good ruffling now and again. You're just the product of an old God. Not even one of ours. Why would they protect you? I don't see them now, and trust me girl they know when I'm near."
(Reply to this)(Parent) (Thread)
[info]awaitingstorms 2011-05-20 04:35 am UTC (link) Track This "Their reasons for protecting me have nothing to do with you," Nina told him, and the fighting spirit in her was something she wasn't entirely sure belonged to her. Maybe it was spending so much time around the Aztec sun god and his warriors, maybe it was because she'd now three times murdered and eaten those hearts, maybe it was just her trying to channel her brother's bravado.
She crossed her arms, leaning back in her chair, pretending she was all cool with this whole situation. "Maybe I'm 'of interest' to more than just you."
(Reply to this)(Parent) (Thread)
[info]dawnstar 2011-05-20 04:50 am UTC (link) Track This He chuckled, "let me tell you a little secret about the world little girl. You are alone now. You were of interest to me because you smelled of temptation. I half thought you were one of Lust's by blows. Then I would have recruited you, and Id have your soul. Now you are nothing. Not to me, not to the ones you claim protect you. What you are, is of use to them. A pawn in a game that's far too big to comprehend."
"No one would mourn you girl. No one would come after me if I put my hands around your throat and broke your neck. And when you died, you'd go to some lonely place of Aztec fame. Or you'd come to the Pit, where we'd have another long talk."
(Reply to this)(Parent) (Thread)
[info]awaitingstorms 2011-05-21 01:32 am UTC (link) Track This Nina knew that she was a pawn. Knew it and felt overwhelmed by it. She hadn't needed Lucifer's reminder of it.
Nina looked down and wished she had the strength of her brother, his bravado in a way that wasn't faked. "What do you want from me then?" she asked him. "If I'm not of any interest to you then..." She trailed off, not quite wanting to tell him to just leave.

[info]dawnstar 2011-05-21 01:56 am UTC (link) Track This He smiled at her, "all I want I already have. I have your fear. Not as good as a soul, but I'm patient. You'll choose some day. Your blood Gods, or the one on the cross. MY money's on the cross. Guilt's a tricky thing. You'll remember, and fear. Fear kills. And soon enough you'll die by it, and I'm rid of a nuisance."
He rose then and smiled pleasantly, "nice chatting with you dear."
(Reply to this)(Parent) (Thread)
[info]awaitingstorms 2011-05-21 02:01 am UTC (link) Track This It hadn't been Lucifer's intention she was sure, but his words convinced her of one thing: she wanted no connection to his people. She didn't want his Christ or his Heaven or Hell. Nina was Aztec and she needed to accept that. Needed to feed and forget the guilt because all of that belonged to him not Nina.
So she smiled at Lucifer. "A pleasure," she told him, mind already running through this new-found philosophy of hers.

[info]dawnstar 2011-05-21 02:17 am UTC (link) Track This Smiling he offered a mock bow before leaving. He'd keep a watch over that one. Protected by the other's she'd said. He wondered who had promised to keep her safe, and how he could use that. She was tied to someone, and Lucifer lived to see those someone's brought down before him.
