Clio settled her head against his chest, just listening to his heartbeat for a moment, her eyes closed. "Mm, it does," she whispered. Then those thundering footsteps headed their way, and Clio lifted her head and grinned as Ella cannonballed onto a chair opposite them.
"WILL! While you were gone, I had a parent teacher conference and she told my dad I'm- What was it, Mom?!"
"Certainly able to express her wants and needs," Clio snickered.
"No! The bit about how smart I am!"
"Ah. Ella is already reading above her grade level."
