He liked laying out a problem and having someone else lay out a plan (rather than being part of half a dozen different voices all clamoring with their own ideas, talking over each other, barely getting anywhere.) Did she remind Much of Marian, or was Marian just so close to Much's thoughts that he would have found similarities in any woman? "The last people to see her were her workmates, at NYU," Much said. "She was working late upgrading something. We're pretty sure she didn't make it home."
Didn't make it. Much's blood ran cold at his own words, and he pressed his lips together, as the reality of Marian's disappearance grew sharper.
Part of him still hoped, despite everything, that Marian and Rob had just run off together like idiots.
But hearing his own words we're pretty sure she didn't make it home... It made him want to sink into the floor and never get up again. He'd failed her. They'd all failed her.
