"I'd have asked him, but he would have deflected even harder than you just did," Daniel said, though he said it gently and without frustration.
"You got me there," Tuck admitted. "We can chat more about that over lunch. Will's right though, I am quite happy with my lovely community, and totally gaga over Scarlet."
Daniel chucked, "that I never doubted!"
"It's going to be exceedingly strange having someone as perceptive to my building as me around," Tuck said, amused. "Do you still hate mushrooms, Dan?"
Daniel looked shocked at that. "Uh...yes. You remember that?"
At that, Tuck had to put down his knife to just breathe for a moment. "I remember everything," he admitted quietly. "I remember you wanted to be a pirate when you grew up, your favorite sheets were the ones with the dinosaurs. You couldn't sleep until I kissed you goodnight. And your favorite food was blueberry pancakes so I used to make them for you with a little blueberry smiley face. And for thirty years, every time I saw blueberry pancakes on a menu I couldn't breathe for a moment."
Daniel sat there in shock for a second, before leaning in to stage whisper to will, "this is when we hug him, right?"
