Will was on the doorstep, turning a wrapped rectangular package over in his hands, already second-guessing it.
He'd been so damn distracted yesterday, he'd just needed to find something to make himself useful. He'd sketched out a rough plan for Ella's dollhouse, but every time he thought about it, his mind just went back to Apollo's threat to show up at the birthday party (Apollo probably hadn't meant it as a threat, but Will had read it as one) and eventually he'd had to put it to one side.
Apollo. One more name on a growing list of untouchable enemies. One more problem he couldn't fix.
But he could sand timber, so he'd done that.
Was it a dumb idea? Maybe it was a dumb idea. A cheese board was a pretty useless bit of kitchenware, it was just a fancy wooden dish. Nobody really needed one. But Clio liked feeding people, and it was an easy enough thing to make... well, the grain had come up pretty nice, at least. Shit, it was stupid, wasn't it?
"Hi," he said when she opened the door. "I, uh, know you said not to bring anything, but I..." He felt a little sheepish holding out the present. "It's a cheese board?"
