The wizard was flamboyantly dressed, radiating charm and confidence, and upon his approach Qebhet's old shyness prickled at her skin, which suddenly felt a little too exposed.
It was silly, she knew. She might well be the oldest creature in this building, unless there was a Sumerian wandering around; she had millennia on both Hecate and Merlin. There was no reason she should feel cowed! Oh, but age was not always matched with power or fearlessness, and in both respects they were bounds ahead of her.
So she felt. But Hecate introduced her as a peer, and the generous words soothed Qebhet's nerves a little. She returned the wizard's smile with just a little diffidence. "It is a pleasure to meet you, Merlin. Thank you for sharing your library and your wisdom with us."
