Calliope, Erato and Melpomene, early
Calliope swept into the ballroom with a much greater deal of poise than her sister behind her. She wore a dark blue ensemble with a white mask, her dark curls pulled back and up, and she looked positively regal as she surveyed the room.
"Now, what colour did you say Melpomene was wearing tonight?" she asked Erato. "And honestly, could you look any more anxious? Apollo isn't going to bite you. Well..." she paused and considered, "maybe he would. But you don't have to do what he says! Pull yourself together. You look amazing. You will be turning heads tonight."
Erato was dressed in a light blue dress that was fitted to her curves and coquettishly revealing of them, with appliqued leaf patterns covering strategic areas and a long sash around the waist. Her mask was gold filigree with feather accents. "She's in black, or close enough," she replied, going from wringing her hands together to hugging herself. Calliope tutted and lead them towards the refreshments. She fixed them both a drink and pushed one at Erato.
"Here. Drink this and relax a bit. Try not to look like you care what he thinks so much. You are a Muse. He should care what you think."
Erato took a deep breath and drank the whole glass at once. As she went to refill, Calliope called after her, "Don't get drunk! We're performing later!"
