WHO Erato, Clio
WHEN Tuesday night
WHERE Clio's place
WHAT catching up
WARNINGS none

Erato arrived on Clio's doorstep with a tub of expensive ice cream as her contribution to dinner. She'd probably spent too long moping to love songs the last day or two, even at work, so getting out of the house and seeing a friendly face was good for her. She was still wearing a sloppy look, for her- skinny jeans, loose sweater, hair up in a messy bun- so hopefully Clio would look past that.

She had the feeling that Melpomene did feel a little bad, but she wasn't quite ready to forgive her yet. In the mean time, spending time with the more motherly Clio would help set her on the right track.

She pressed the doorbell, bouncing a little on her toes to try and feel a bit more energetic as she waited.

Clio was just putting the finishing touches on the thai curry she had made, when the doorbell rang. Quickly she wiped her coriander-y hands off on a hand towel, and then dashed to the door to open it up. "Hey, Erato," she grinned, pulling her sister into the house and then into a hug.

Erato let out a soft sigh and leaned into the hug. "Hey," she replied. Yes, a sisterly hug was just what she'd needed. "I brought ice cream. What's that I smell?"

Clio pulled away, giving Erato's shoulder a little squeeze, before leading her sister in through the living room to the kitchen. "Chicken penang curry," she said, opening the freezer for the ice cream. "I have to make the spicy things when Ella's away. She won't eat them. Ice cream will be a perfect dessert."

"Cool the burning afterwards," Erato agreed. She put her handbag down on the table and slid into a chair with a slight flop. Clio's kitchen was nice. It had been a while since she'd last been in it. "So the child isn't home this evening then?"

"Ella isn't home," Clio said, a little firmly. She didn't like Ella being referred to as 'the child' as if she was interchangeable with any other children. "She's visiting with Patrick since he didn't see her for ages. Do you want to eat at the table or in the living room?"

"Whatever suits you," Erato said easily, breezing past the subtle reprimand, leaning her chin on her hand. "You know quite the assortment of people. It's interesting how you find them all. For instance, Ella's father? How did that even happen?"

Clio huffed out a laugh and she went to grab the bowl of coconut rice so she could dish some out. Eating in the living room sounded more cosy and she wanted cosy tonight. "We both worked at Columbia, and we got really drunk at a staff function. That's all," she said, sucking some errant rice off her finger. "No fireworks, no big romance. Just a drunken one night stand and there she was."

"Really? Oh." Erato pouted a little. She wanted more love in her life, and if she couldn't have it herself, then by Zeus she would make sure other people had it. "Did you... want to have romance with him? Because I have a couple of sure-fire sonnets I could give you to whisper into his ear..."

"You want to feed me sonnets to whisper into Jacob Grimm's ear?" Clio looked amused as she spooned rice into two bowls. "No thank you, but that is very sweet of you. I'm not interested in Jacob that way. He's a good friend. I do have a boyfriend though, and I will tell you about him, but you better dish yourself up some curry first!"

Nobody had ever dished up curry so fast in their lives as Erato did then, springing out of her chair and hurrying over. "Tell me!" she demanded, watching her sister closely. "I need to know!"

"Into the living room with you," Clio laughed, shooing her sister through so they could lounge on the sofa. She carried her own bowl to the sofa and settled in.

"His name is Will," Clio started slowly. "Will Stutely. He's one of Robin Hood's Merry Men. He's wonderful."

Erato folded her legs under her and sat facing Clio, her bowl in her lap. "The real Robin Hood? Wow. Oh! The barman at Diogenes is one of them. Keep going. What was your meet-cute?" She definitely felt perked up talking about romance, especially of someone she cared about.

Clio wasn't going to explain what Will had needed, but she could tell a bit of the story. "I had been asked over by his friend, the Friar Tuck. Will showed up, looking so grumpy and gruff, until I offered to take him turkey hunting."

Erato screwed up her nose. "That was your big come on? Turkey hunting?" Oh boy. What was the world coming to? Some weird shit, apparently. "Your eyes didn't meet across a crowded room, or you dropped something and both went to pick it up, or anything?"

"He lived in a forest, Erato," Clio laughed. "Besides, I love turkey hunting! No meet cute. Just good, old fashioned, having things in common."

"Ugh but turkeys are not romantic." Erato had to try and make the best of it, though, so long as her sister was happy with it. She ate her food, thinking it over.

"At least tell me he's good at sex," she said at last. There might be no romance but at least there would be good fucking!

"To each their own," Clio grinned, and then she took a huge bite of curry. "Oh, he is amazing. He's just so...big. It's all very, very good."

Erato raised an eyebrow and snorted at that. "Ha ha! Oh my gosh. At least there's that!" She laughed. "Does he have a friend? Oh man. Ever since I got back, I am not doing well with men. I just want someone who gives me butterflies, you know? Even if only for one night! I took Bia home though, she was excellent. But men- I just keep striking out. I don't know what's wrong with me." She shook her head sorrowfully and shrugged.

"Hey," Clio put her fork down then and she shook her head. "Erato, there's nothing wrong with you! You'll get your butterflies, sister. And they'll be worth waiting for."

"I gave up to Melpomene too easily. I should have fought her harder. But I just... It was my own fault for inviting her. I should have known better." Erato still felt miffed about the whole situation. "Apollo makes me feel like that. Always has. I can't help it around him. You know. But he ignored me and it really hurt. I don't want to have to fight for attention. It's number one or nothing." She frowned down at her bowl.

"It wasn't your fault," Clio said firmly. "She shouldn't have shown up like that. She knew you were there with him. I don't believe any one has a claim over him at all, but you were literally with him and she crashed. She did it deliberately, and of course it hurt. But you know...she probably wasn't thinking about the fact that it would hurt you. I don't think she would set out to hurt us on purpose." Maybe others, but she would like to believe the muses were safe.

Erato listened to Clio's words, and sighed and nodded. "Maybe so," she said, then pressed her mouth into a hard line. "Either way, I'm not going to sleep with him this weekend. He's going to have to work a little harder to win me back."
